Kensico Cemetery, established in 1889, is one of the largest and most beautiful cemeteries in New York. Spanning over 460 acres of rolling farmland in the hamlet of Valhalla, the cemetery was designed with a park-like aesthetic, featuring winding lanes, ponds, shade trees, and statuary that create a serene and tranquil atmosphere. The grounds were carefully selected and developed to take advantage of the natural features of the landscape, providing a peaceful resting place for loved ones. Throughout its more than 100 years of history, Kensico has responded to the needs and preferences of lot owners, maintaining the cemetery in an eerily pristine condition with the help of an extensive team of gardeners. The cemetery is home to the final resting places of several notable individuals, including composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, actress Anne Bancroft, author Ayn Rand, and Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig. Visitors to Kensico Cemetery often describe it as a well-kept and beautiful place, with many expressing a positive and enjoyable experience during their visits. The cemetery's park-like design and the dedication of its staff have made it a beloved and respected institution in the local community.
