“Short review: Simply the best. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. If you are in need of someone to help you prepare for and plan a funeral, do yourself a favor and ask for Matt at Alexander Rothwell Funeral Homes.

Longer review: There is something wonderful to watch someone who is incredible at their craft doing it so well you are grateful to just be in their presence.

I'm lucky enough to enjoy Shakespeare's plays, and Beethoven's music. I am even more fortunate that I got to watch Michael Jordan play basketball, Serena Williams play Tennis, and Matt prepare and conduct a funeral.

When my father in law passed suddenly, we were pretty much at a loss of what to do and how to do it. We had a couple of specific things we knew he wanted, but how to execute it, especially the piece about how to interact with Calverton National Cemetery for his military honors was a daunting task. We completely lucked into Matt.

This review has taken me a while to write, because I tear up about how much he helped us through the process at every level, especially the levels that you never have to think about until someone passes.

Matt was the first one in the process to show any kind of true empathy. He takes such incredible pride in his work and it shined through at every possible aspect of his job.

Matt helped us navigate challenges with the police, with the medical officers, with Calverton, even with our family who came out of the woodwork to have a lot of opinions. Matt had our back and protected us the entire way. Matt went out of his way to help accommodate us and keep us from having to drive hours, which he definitely did not have to do. He got us through one of the hardest things we have had to do.

He kept us on task, making sure we provided him with what he needed to create a beautiful ceremony and service for our dearly beloved.

That said, this is ostensibly a review about a funeral home, so I should also add that they did an incredible job with the funeral service itself. Every detail in the space itself was treated with the same love and care which Matt showed us at every step in the process. The day was perfect, from the flower selection, to how his service flag was displayed, to how easy they made it for us to get to and from the Cemetery afterwards- even to the restaurant we had the repast at (which I should mention, Matt also recommended).

Matt went from a stranger to a guardian angel for our family in a time we really needed him and his team. I'm starting to realize how much faith we had in Matt, and how he never let us down, and even exceeded our wildest expectations.

Even our Pastor, who has much more experience with funeral homes than we do, commented on how great a job Matt did.
