My mom found her kitty here and it was such a seamless process. The volunteers here really were so so patient with my mom and I with finding the purrrrfect fit for her home.Note: they do not answer the phone, don't try callingIf you're driving there in the night time be prepared to be confused about how to get it, it is very poorly lit outside and the GPS doesn't have the exact right location

Amazing would be an understatement when describing Last Hope. A few weeks back, we adopted an 8-month-old Brussels Griffon. He looked like an Ewok, so we named him Chewbacca. He is the best little dog. The staff at Last Hope went above and beyond anything I could have imagined. In short, they exceeded my expectations. They are generous, kind, respectful, and above all, they treat the animals like their own. These animals are healthy, clean and the entire facility is immaculate. My dog was chipped, and fully vaccinated. They even had him neutered. They even supplied me with toys, a cage, food, and medicine. Denise, the woman I interacted with throughout the process, is nothing short of an angel. The initial cage they gave me was a bit small, so she came to my house to drop off a larger one. Who does this? If you are in the process of looking for a dog or cat, please, I beg you, DO NOT go to a pet store. There is no need to pay thousands of dollars, when you can adopt a fantastic animal from a rescue shelter. And if you are anywhere near Last Hope Rescue in Wantagh, NY, make this place your first stop. Trust me, you won't need to go anywhere else.

Some lady named Jane was so downright condescending to my aunt and then myself. She just kept asking personal questions that had nothing to do with wanting to adopt an animal!! She was an angry person. Shame because everyone else there was wonderful.

A shelter that genuinely cares for the animals, they accept cash donations, as well as food and other items for the animals. If you get a chance to stop in, the people are lovely.

The best. We got our senior girl Ruby from them. She was vetted completely which doesn't generally happen with lesser rescues. This rescue is very reputable and gives you the food and meds they are currently on. They give you a leash, New collar bowls, toys and treats as well. Thanks Last Hope.

I went to Last Hope on a Saturday 3/4 at around 6pm. The woman who greated us were extremely pleasant and very professional. They ask what I was looking for and took us for a tour of their doggies up for adoption. Explain that they Rescue dogs from Georgia, Puerto Rico and I believe North Carolina ? they have all big, medium and small dogs. Even puppies and a cat section. They Explain as much as possible on each dog you might be interested in adopting. They then place a dog you might be interested in adopting in a room to interact. You can fill out an application right on the spot and they review it and will get back to you in 1 or 2 weeks. The process is fairly simple. I felt very welcomed and they had a bunch of beautiful doggies up for adoption. I would definitely recommend this place.

We saw a rescue pup and hoped it would be able to come home with us . The new forever home became a family that saw it prior to us . We wish the pup many happy years with its new family .The staff at L.H.I. really are a great group of folks doing a wonderful service for rescue pets . Background checks are done for all potential forever families . They provide starter meals , collars or harnesses , leashes (as needed) and guidance for the human families that go there . All of their charges are checked by vets before adoption .

Terrible customer service. You go there, see a pet you like. They promise they will call you if you get accepted or not. Let a little girl pet the cat. We filled an application. They didn't even call the references. Didn't inform of yes or no decision. Don't recommend unless you fit into their "ideal" profile. Left them messages, called them and no response during the waiting period. Unbelievable.

I'm surprised to see there aren't many recent reviews as I know this rescue places hundreds of animals, so I will share our experience. This past August we lost our beloved cat of 16 years and we were devastated. My husband and I knew we needed a new friend soon as he was our only cat, the house was so lonely. I went to Petco in Wantagh to look at the kittens and ended up calling Mary, one of the volunteers to ask when I could meet one of them. I then found out he was spoken for but she arranged to meet me the next day at the actual shelter to show me all the other kittens and cats that were available. The next day we met and she took me on the tour. I picked a few to meet but then asked to specifically see the black cats as I think we skipped them, I'm not sure why (my last cat was black and I'm partial). When she opened 'Dukes' cage, he climbed right out onto me, instant love. I chose three to spend some time with in a more open space and Duke won me over. The next step was for my husband to meet him to seal the deal. That happened just a few days later as our application was being processed. The application is pretty standard, they want to make sure you can provide for your pet, have taken any previous pets to the vet, will ask for references (and definitely call them), and will for sure call your landlord if you're in an apartment. They will also do a FaceTime call to do a tour of your house / yard making sure you have screens on all windows for cats. When my husband met him, Duke did the same exact thing, he actually woke up from a nap, climbed over his brother, and out onto me. That was IT! He was ours. We wanted a vocal 'dog-cat' and we got exactly that! He fetches and brings us his toys, and NEVER stops talking, we love him so so much. An additional pro and con: pro, this is one of only a few rescues that allows young-ish kittens to be adopted alone, many will require you to take two so they are company for each other. My husband and I are experienced pet owners who work opposite shifts, Oliver (his new name), is rarely alone and we play with his constantly. We have taught him simple manners and to me this is more important than adopting more than you can handle or are allowed at any given time. Con: as we were leaving when we picked him up he began to vocalize once we got outside in the carrier. A volunteer we had never met / seen before (who had already asked us if we were taking his brother too), said smugly, 'he probably wants his brother'. This we did not need to hear. We live in a small apartment and are only allowed one cat per our landlord who is also our petsitter. We are very grateful and respectful of their rules, that comment was totally unnecessary. I could have removed a star for her comment but this organization does such great things, they don't deserve that for her ignorance. We have now had Oliver almost three months. Once we named him, we were given instructions on who and how to call to register his microchip, the instructions the woman gave me were so helpful. He fits into our home perfectly, and although we miss our old boy Maynard, he brings us tons of joy.

My dad went here to adopt a dog. He lives alone since my mom died and loves when I bring my little dog over for a visit so he wanted to get a small dog of his own. He filled out the application (which they approved) and looked at a dog. It was love at first sight for both of them, he knew right away that was the dog for him. They told him they would have to schedule a 'house inspection'... not a problem. He was extremely excited, bought the dog a bed, food, toys, a harness, etc. Then he receives a call that he cannot adopt a dog BECAUSE HE IS TOO OLD!! Are you kidding me?!?! Did you not realize that when you approved his application?!? Now he is heart-broken. How can these people be so uncaring? I do not recommend anyone go here... if they don't care about the people that come in, I can't imagine they care anything about the pets. Steer clear!
