Discount stores are a dime a dozen in this part of Queens and J&C is one of several in within a 3 block stretch of where Greenpoint Ave becomes Roosevelt. This store is located just steps away from the 52nd St stop, which blends in so well that it's incredibly easy to miss. It doesn't help they have several awnings outside that read "53 99 Cents Discount Inc" and "Homestyle 99¢ Store."As unassuming is it is, it has the very same feel as it's nearby competitors: a lot of random stuff that feels a little less organized than the average Dollar Tree. There is an assortment of (plastic) kitchenware, laundry stuff, cleaning supplies, and lots of generic brands made in that massive country in Asia. I've managed to find random things that I would need along the way here over the years. Batteries, candies, seasonal stuff, spices, takeout containers and basically anything I would need in a pinch to get me through the week.Service isn't their strong suit and the prices are always inexpensive. Cash is king here and they do charge for running a card, which I think is anything less than $10 total. It's all street parking or the 52nd St stop, but for Woodside/Sunnyside residents, it's about choosing one of many for whatever is convenient at the moment.

Extremely rude employees. My coworker and I went shopping for our organization with a tax exempt form. Cashier charged tax anyway. We brought this to her attention, then another employee comes yelling at us asking why we didn't show her the tax exempt form earlier. But we clearly did. Then the other employee informs us that the cashier doesn't read English and we should have told her what it said. We are not psychic to know that the cashier can't read English and either way, it's alarming that the cashier doesn't possess the basic skills to complete her job and they make it seem like it's our fault. They don't have to worry about us ever coming back and shopping at this store again. Hire capable, polite employees and maybe you'll get repeat customers.

Never go here!!! They have no stickers on most items, no price labels and charge whatever they feel like. Most 99 cent stores put stickers on everything that is not 99 cents. So everything without stickers is typically 99 cents. Here they don't have stickers on most of the thing and when you go to the counter they just charge you whatever they feel like. They charge a dollar 1.99 for a lot of items that cost typically 99 Cents Only in other stores. What a rip off

Worst 99 c store to shop. Very tiny walkway between the isles. The lade at the the register is very rude, not helpful at all. Living in the neighborhood for 21 years, that was my go to store before the new owners bought it few years back. Most of the goods are priced high. I would rather walk 5 blocks more and visit Dollar Tree.

DO NOT PURCHASE FROM HERE!!!The ladies at the counter are extremely rude !!! I purchased balloons and the lady was upset that I wanted them inflated and had a nasty attitude. She barely put helium into the balloons and was very sarcastic. She is very unprofessional. I also purchased a happy birthday sign that needed to be inflated and she purposely did not give me the letter T in birthday. I realized when I got home and when I went back she was being rude again and did not give me the letter that I PAYED for. Please DO NOT SHOP here. If you want a bad experience by all means come here. This is not a store I recommend, it has terrible service and she's just disrespectful. PLEASE PURCHASE ELSEWHERE for balloons. You'd think spending 70 dollars for the balloons and for them to be inflated , she would be able to do her job and the service she "offers." However that is too much to ask apparently . If there were 0 stars I'd give 0 STARS.

As mentioned on other reviews, this place price gouges. You can literally walk a couple of blocks towards 61st Street and find multiple shops with prices 30%+ lower. No wonder most of their stuff have no price tags and the store looks like a hoarder's nightmare. Also, they are trying to charge 25 cents for a bag. You've got to be kidding me. Never bothering with this circle of a place again.
