Excellent coffee, sweet treats, and customer service. What more do you need? A cafe? Ok. That, too. After driving by Brewbake's many times and never finding it open, I was pleasantly surprised to have my timing right for this visit. Although coffee is listed first in the name, the non-coffee treats seem to take center stage. There weren't many people when I walked in, so I was anticipating being rushed to order, but the owner let me take my time. There was a limited selection of bakery items in the display case, probably because it was mid-morning and some of the trays looked like they had been full earlier. While my latte was brewing, I spent the time perusing the few goodies available. Finally, I settled on a muffin, not wanting anything too sweet early in the day. I couldn't give up the opportunity to have chocolate, though; and was happy to hear that what I thought was a blueberry muffin was actually chocolate chip. Yay! I fully expected that muffin to have a few chips that had sunk to the bottom of the batter. I was so wrong. There were chips throughout. Every bite had chocolate. And the muffin top was slightly crunchy from the light sprinkling of sugar. I don't know if all of them were like that, but if so, I could get addicted. For that, I'm glad it isn't closer to home. The tastiness of the muffin was matched only by the smoothness of the coffee. Because I really had no expectations when I walked in to Brewbake's, I was beyond happy with what I found. Had I the time, I would have stayed to try lunch. The pimento cheese panini sounded pretty tasty. Maybe next time.
