We made the mistake of coming at 7PM on a Saturday evening. Google said it should be a 15m wait or so. It took over 30m to order our food and about 45m once we ordered to be called to get our food. As someone else mentioned, once you pay, there is an option to tip and the lowest non custom tip is 18%, which seems high for a restaurant where you get your own food, get your own water, and bus your own table. It was also below 60 degrees out and no heaters were on outside, which was a bummer. They warned me when I ordered the kids waffles that there is garam masala in the waffles, but my kids had gone outside because standing in line for 30m isn't exactly fun, and trying to decide a replacement dinner for a child is a dangerous endeavor. None of my 4 kids liked the waffle, but by then we really had to go as it was 8:30 or 8:45 at night and we'd just gotten our food, so even though they offered to fix it if the kids didn't enjoy it, we certainly didn't have time to wait for new food. All the food was cold by the time it got to the table. My husband said his Thai chicken sandwich was good, and my pumpkin curry was good. But neither of us had leftovers, so the portions were average at best. And how does curry over rice get cold in the time it takes to walk outside? Maybe if we went on a warmer day at 5PM it would be a pleasant experience, but I was disappointed. Oh, and the coffee wasn't good.

This was my first time here, and I will likely be back with more friends. You order at the counter and pick your food up when it's ready, then bus your own table when finished. There are several vegetarian options on the menu. Please see additional information included with this review. I loved the portobello bowl, and my friend had the house burger with sweet potato waffle fries, and enjoyed that too. Prices are fair and portions are large. The staff member taking our order was friendly and made a good recommendation when I asked for her opinion. I LOVE the large outdoor seating area. After paying for our food we were shown another screen with tip amounts on it. I'm not sure what we tipped for, since there is no table service; and I thought the city council voted for restaurant workers to be paid a living wage of $15/hr. I guess I need to be clued in - am I tipping the kitchen staff, person taking my order or what? Coming from a culture where tipping is for table service, and there was none, I guess I'm confused. I loved the portobello bowl and will definitely be back.Vegetarian options: There are several veggie items on the menu. I had the Portobello Bowl with kimchi, cucumbers and pumpkin. Delicious!

Overpriced garbage.. Who puts butter lettuce on a hot sandwich? Okay the deep fried frozen tater tots were okay but if that’s your redeeming quality, you suck. 2 drinks and a terrible sandwich with frozen tater tots 50 bucks!

The feta fries are so delicious. The staff were very friendly and helped us choose a draft beer.

The House Burger is amazing. Glad I did not get it with Mayo... completely unneeded. The Avacado Toast was the worst I've had. Skimpy on the avocado, buried in arugula and pickled onions. Dressing (I ask why?) was slathered on and had an aftertaste.Service was great and it's a cool vibe. Just never get the avocado toast...

WAVL would not be the same with HC and The Whale. Incredible food, amazing service and adjacent to the best tap room maybe ever? Thankful for this place in our hood!

Haywood Common is always a solid place to go for a good dinner with a shorter wait time.

Loved the multiple vegan options. Menu items were marked for gluten free, vegan & vegetarian. Some regular items have vegan & gluten free variations. Creative Mocktails, beer & wine on menu.
I had the Portobello on sourdough bread. It was delicious! Sides are extra

This is the gold standard and always a safe bet. Solid hours, and haven't had a bad meal here. There are options for omnivores, vegetarians, and seafood lovers. Filling portions, good beer selection, and shares a space with a bottle shop/bar behind it (The Whale) in case you can't find a drink you like. Outdoor and indoor space, quick service, and cheery staff. I've been here 10+ times and haven't had a bad experience.
