Overall: Great little cafe in the heart of downtown and nestled in the bookstore. The good: Friendly service that was quick once we got our orders in. The drinks were delicious and gave us energy for the day. Nice atmosphere tucked within the bookstore, so you can browse around too. Great location. The not-so-good: Prices are a little high for coffee drinks, but that's about it really.

Malaprop's Bookstore is a nice shop in downtown Asheville, offering a good selection of books that has something for everyone here. I can't ever resist a bookstore wherever I am, so naturally, I visited Malaprop's to see what it was all about. It's a local bookstore that will have that best seller, new release or that one book that's on every must-read list. If you're looking for a particular book, it's worth inquiring about it here. The bookstore itself isn't massive, but is a good size shop that has different genres that are well organized and clear to find, as well as a small café near the entrance. If you're walking around downtown Asheville and are a bibliophile, then you must pay Malaprop's a visit. Although they won't have all the books, you'll find the selection they have is a decent amount, and there are author events and readings. It would be a place I'd frequent if I lived in the area.

I love this bookstore. We made the trip downtown just to go here. We were enjoying browsing when we had to cut our trip short because there wasn't a bathroom available. It really doesn't make sense to have a cafe but no bathroom.

Cute bookstore with friendly people. It is small and I wish there was areas to sit and read and enjoy the bookstore vibes

I’ve been shopping here for years, every time we visit Asheville, I must shop. I would like to see more bookmarks. Some people drive long distances to get there so a restroom would be nice.

Exceptionally talented staff make this indy bookstore one of the best in the US. They also have the best selection of local and artisanal greeting cards.

I will start this review with the caveat that I love independent book stores. But, I have to say without a doubt that Malaprop's is probably my favorite! The store is welcoming and well stocked. The staff is amazing - helpful and friendly. No trip to Asheville would be complete without a stop at this beautiful shop!

Appreciate this local bookstore selling their last copy of this excellent book I am giving as a gift today. Impressed with their inviting atmosphere and welcoming displays. Noticed excellent selection of traditional wall calendars. I walked 3 blocks to get to store & encountered indigent men begging on each corner plus garbage festooning the sidewalks & doorways. Tremendously off putting. Can't imagine we are expecting visitors to enjoy our downtown ?

Literally my favorite bookstore EVER. It's this amazing local bookshop with something for everyone! It even has a cafe, which I haven't had the ability to try yet, but the selection of books I can definitely attest to. I'm personally a big fan of Neil Gaiman, and they have a wonderful selection of his works that I've picked over from time to time. Everything's organized very nicely, and bets are if you go in there looking for something, you'll leave with it in hand and awaiting your next trip just as avidly as I do.

We had a good time walking around in there but didn't stay too long! It was quiet and peaceful. They helped nicely. The coffee in the Cafe is amazing! Sweet Kali (prob butchered that spelling ?) was so sweet, and took care of us. Thanks!!

This historic bookshop has been running for over forty years, in Beautiful Asheville, NC. With a café located inside for takeaway drinks & pastries, you’ll browse for hours! Incredible local/regional selections! A fantastic Queer section, Women’s section, & enormous children’s & YA sections! The staff are friendly & knowledgeable. Check out their website for a groovy list of author events (so many book-signings, book-talks, & poetry readings). In addition to thousands of book titles, they also have a massive selection of board games, puzzles, crosswords, interactive art workbooks, journals, planners, calendars, book lights, fountain/calligraphy pens, branded t-shirts, magnets, postcards, greeting cards, toys, mugs, & so much more! Gift-wrapping is available as well. Wheelchair accessible. No washrooms are available at this bookshop, though it is located on the same block as the public library, which has washrooms. It is also a three minute walk from an historic shopping mall with public washrooms. Dog-friendly!! Parking available on the street, as well as nearby lots & garages.

Is located in side of the library. Thought it would be it's own little store so it was sorta hard to find the entrance. Wide selection of used books. Did not have an area of young adult or teen interest, which my daughter was looking for. Did find a good selection of young childrens books and surprisingly some movies. Really good prices.

Somehow "closed in 5 minutes" means you can't order expresso from the coffee shop since they are "already cleaning the expresso machine". Seems we have forgotten that you are open until you are closed. At the time you are closed.

Love everything about this store. Only wish they'd stay open later like they used to pre-pandemic. Went there for date night coffee and book buying. Closed at 5pm on a Saturday :(

This place is lovely in general, but Cali at the coffee area is just wonderful. She is delightful and a bright spot of visiting. Also she has lovely handwriting. Every time I come I hope to see her.
