The Avon Fishing Pier, opened in 1963, is the last pier built on Hatteras Island and is renowned for its record catches, especially the giant Red Drum. Anglers can enjoy fishing without needing a license, and the pier offers everything needed for a great day out. Visitors can enjoy beautiful ocean views and storm waves while walking along the pier, which has a friendly atmosphere enhanced by local fishermen. The pier is an affordable destination, with a small fee to walk out. Helpful staff, like the kind Mr. Earl, assist newcomers with fishing gear and techniques, ensuring a great experience. The pier can get crowded in the afternoons, but it remains a perfect spot for both fishing and sightseeing, with a gift and bait shop available for convenience.
Very inexpensive ($2 each), but a very enjoyable time.

I mean it is in need of a lot of love but worth a couple of bucks to get out there and people watch - both those on the pier fishing and those trying to surf!

It was great. A lot of fun. You can rent fishing poles and buy bait if you did not come prepared.
