I really hate to leave a negative review, but the fact that I paid $220 for the night and got a room and service that was probably $100 a night, I feel like other people should be forewarned. So, I'll give the pros and cons...
Pros: The hotel itself is truly historic building, and the lobby is very well appointed and appropriate for the early 1900s. There is a cool library and sitting area, and the feel of the main lodge is really a unique, historic experience. The room itself was clean (although freezing cold when we walked in, as they had left the room heat turned off). The bathroom was ok, but needed some maintenance (all of the caulking around the sink and tub was cracked and pulling away from the wall, for example). That's about it for the pros.
Cons: No Restaurant!! The place advertises itself as having both a tavern and a restaurant, but neither one is actually open! At the time that we stayed there (late December 2024) their website said that the restaurant was closed for remodeling and the tavern was open. After a long day of traveling, we were really looking forward to putting our stuff down in the room and enjoying the tavern for dinner and drinks. But when we checked in, they informed us that the tavern in fact was closed. The reason given was that they were "between chefs". So we were really not happy with the fact that we had to get back in our car and drive into town, and then wait almost an hour due to the waiting list at all of the restaurants. So, be warned, there are NO FOOD OPTIONS at this hotel.
They also advertised, and told us, that they had a full breakfast included with the room. At check-in, they told us that we needed to make a reservation time for breakfast, because breakfast was made to order and they had to plan a specific time. We were told that we could only come to breakfast at either 8:45 or 9:30. So we set an alarm and arrived at the appointed time of 8:45, only to find almost nothing available to eat. They had four hot containers set up with with small amounts of bacon, sausage, eggs, and potatoes. There were only some dregs left at that time. The woman who was working there said that she would bring out fresh hot food soon, and she did in fact bring out a ton of bacon a few minutes later later. That was it. There was no cereal, no fruit, no waffles, no bread, no bagels. So unless you are into bacon and eggs, there was not really any breakfast. It was extremely lacking.
Overall, sadly, it appeared to me that this hotel is struggling. We only saw six or eight other people staying there during the time we were there, even though the town itself was extremely busy. I hope that they do a re-think and invest in service....the place has a lot of potential. But right now, it is only marginally better than an economy motel.

Jan 5 2025. Stayed for 2 nights. Moved rooms 3 times due to no hot water. 3rd room had hot water the first night but not the second. There was hardly any heat through the radiator on the first night.(a 20 degree evening)We have stayed here for 25 years, and love this place and have made many memories here...but this will be our last.

Living at the bottom of the mountain we had been by this hotel for years; always wanting to see it from the inside as we love the styles of yesteryear. We were pleasantly surprised at it's grandior. It was simply lovely. Charlie playing the piano in the lobby added a special essence to our stay. Our room was nice and they had started the heater so that it would be toasty and warm. The bed was super comfy. The hot water did take a while to heat up for a shower (3rd floor) but once it did it was sufficient. Grant the bartender was most skillful in making cocktails and making us feel welcome. We enjoyed the free buffet breakfast both mornings. Just walking through the hotel was a treat for us as we thought of all the stories it could tell and the memories made over the years. We loved it.
Rooms: We had a suite that was cozy and warm. We did not have a "view" but that was ok with us as we live in NC and are blessed to have a "view" all days ;)
Food and drinks: Winter special cocktails were made really well and very tasty. The morning breakfast buffet was good with the normal morning offerings.

We love to stay in historic hotels, we don't mind quirks. The hotel is sweet...BUT an absolute ghost ship. We were hoping for a holiday vibe, nothing. Lights were up outside but not on. We knew the restaurant was closed, but that the Tavern was open, from the confirmation email. We planned to have a little bite to eat and a drink, but when we arrived, we were told the Tavern was closed too...Complementary breakfast, veggie and egg scramble of only onions! At this point it was past disappointing, on to comical. Even the droopy plant in the lobby was depressing. This place has a bad case of absentee ownership...

I cannot recommend this hotel. We experienced multiple issues during our stay, including needing to switch rooms three times due to the heating not functioning properly. The property appears to be in need of significant upkeep, as the rooms were not only poorly maintained but also had an unpleasant odor. Additionally, the complimentary breakfast was disappointing – the food was cold and inedible, and the coffee was unpalatable. Overall, our experience did not meet expectations.

I'm not sure why this hotel has so many 5 star reviews. We stayed here last weekend. The first room we were put in was FILTHY. There were handprints all over the mirrors, dust on the furniture, black mold in the bathroom, globs of hair in the drains, the Keurig didn't work, and the room smelled. The bed was falling apart with visible nails sticking out which was also a safety hazard. We asked the front desk if we could move rooms and the second room we were put in was still filthy. There was a massive handprint on the mirror, dust everywhere, more hair in the drain, and stains all over the quilt on the bed. The only difference was it didn't have black mold in the bathroom (at least that we could see). They also made our breakfast reservation for 10:30 and at 10:00 they came knocking on our door asking if we were still coming. We showed up at 10:30 to an empty dining room. I definitely would not recommend staying here. We left and immediately felt like we needed to go home and shower.

Our stay here was very disappointing. The first room we were in was cold when we arrived and had a weird smell in it which intensified to a horrible smell as the room heated up while we were at dinner. I complained at the front desk and was sent to walk around the inn and pick out another room. The horrible smell was in several other sections of the inn that I walked through and could be smelled in the hallway also. I was told by the person at the desk that it was an “old building.” The next room we moved to didn’t have the smell, but we weren’t able to control the temperature in the room. The room was extremely hot all night long and we weren’t able to open the windows to get any relief. The hot water in the bathroom was depleted quickly and I was forced to take a cold and then gradually lukewarm shower before bedtime. The one light switch in the bathroom operated the exhaust fan, the overhead light and the one power outlet in the bathroom. There was black mildew in some of the caulking in the tub and a pubic hair under the basket that held the inn’s provided toiletries.
This morning, there was no ice in the ice machine, just a sign that said to see the person at the front desk. When we went to get the breakfast that was included with the room rate, there was a buffet that consisted of bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, biscuits, scrambled eggs and french fries. Yes, French fries! All of the food on the buffet was cold.
We decided to go ahead and check out and get breakfast somewhere else and the person working the checkout said she could take $25 off our bill since we didn’t eat breakfast, the breakfast that was supposedly “free.”
I had planned this overnight trip for my spouse’s birthday, a special birthday after a tough year of a cancer diagnosis, chemo and two surgeries. This stay at the Green Park Inn was a bitter disappointment for what was intended to be a time of relaxation and rest.
Do not recommend!!!

This hotel is a classic American institution. Like a moment caught in time. The service and staff were amazing. The team at the Green Park Inn were nothing short of amazing. We did not make it easy on them, showing up with 30 people right after a hurricane... but they not only fit us in, they knocked it out of the park. Will definitely be back. Not to mention the amazing views, restaraunts and towns near by, as well as the food and drinks at the hotel.

Rooms: The room was charming and comfortable.
Food and drinks: The food is delicious. Breakfast was made to order and did not disappoint. The dinner at the Tavern was delicious.

Last of the Grand Hotels in NC. Quite the experience going back in time. Almost a mini somewhere in time type of experience without having to travel to Michigan. Hotel even has a museum with historical items from its past (no picture of Jane Seymour though, only Eleanor Roosevelt). Rooms were quaint and The Blowing Rock was across the street. Service and breakfast were terrific! Even have a piano player come in during the evenings so you can enjoy your drinks and listen in the reading room or lobby.

Historic inn. Visited by many famous people over its life. If you enjoy historic places over 100 years old, this place is for you. If you do not like a lack of modern conveniences or a little run down then you won't like it. The included breakfast is a table
service with a limited but adequate menu and one of the high points of the visit. Some rooms do not have heat. They gave us a space heater.

Walkability: It depends on how much you like walking.
Food and drinks: There is a delicious free breakfast with stay and a tavern to eat at.
Noteworthy details: It is a historic inn and has alittle history room. It also has had many famous people stay at the inn.

It’s a nice old hotel with a lot of history and character; however is a little tired.
We did have a comfortable stay and would recommend considering this hotel for your stay.
Having a car is useful as it’s not especially close to local amenities.

Very cool historical hotel, modernly appointed. Great service, restaurant and bar. We loved the live music too!
