If you are looking for quality work done in a timely manner definitely choose someone other than Appalachian Construction and Handyman, LLC.We hired them to do new deck railings with cable wire and to build a small wall and hang a barn door at our house. The hope was that these projects would be done well and in a timely manner and they would continue on to remodel our kitchen and bathroom.I’m honestly not even sure where to start with the complaints because there are so many. Our house has two levels of decks and they are almost identical on each floor. The project was for them to lower the deck railing to code level and run wire cabling. They messed up when cutting our deck posts and made the upstairs deck 36” and the downstairs 38”. Because of their mistake they ran different numbers of horizontal cable (7 runs upstairs, 8 downstairs) because they ran out of room. The quality of work was terrible as well. See attached photos of terrible cuts and joints in the deck railing that don’t line up.The interior barn door was not framed properly and was hung shoddily with just 2x4s. Door comes off the tracks because it was hung too low and gets stuck on the floor.Twice we were invoiced for incorrect amounts. The first time they caught it and the 2nd time I had to let them know we were being invoiced for work that wasn’t done. Just not professional at all. They bought tons of extra fittings for the cable railing totaling hundreds of dollars and we were stuck with the parts and the bill because the construction supplier they use wouldn’t take it back.We were invoiced for 100% completion of the job and when I went to check none of the construction trash was removed from the site and the job wasn’t completed as per our contract. They went to “finish” the job and remove the trash. Was lied to via text by owner, Michael, that job was finished and trash removed. To end the misery we made final payment sight unseen. Went back to check and construction debris was thrown down the hill of our property and work that Mike said was done wasn’t.All in all a terrible experience that lasted from March to September to get new deck railings and a door hung. Just crazy.

HIRE AT OWN RISK he will send criminals to do work with out supervising, he skirts code, and even thou he may do a material quote, he will try to throw material at job i guess hoping that he will somehow figure code out as he goes. He may even not use material as quoted. He wrote estimate yet did not follow his own estimate. He called my job a simple one, yet failed code 2 times. he has rebuilt a couple times just to still not follow code. 4 months after my simple job as he called it, I am seeking a professional to correct his sub code work. . Anyone can claim will fix it, yet how many times does a poor builder need to build something he called simple before he gets it right. If you want it right the first time, and in budget, this is not who you need to hire

Hired to build steps, first crew ended up in jail for something. Second crew did substandard work. 2 and half months later and job want pass inspection. Crews are not supervised.Use at you own risk.I told him multiple times can not in case post in cement, he did it anyway. Now I wait for him to dig up cement.,stated he has been doing it this way for years and years. So, for years and, years he has been doing sub par work.,I agree that subs that follow code should not have to be supervised, yet , that's not you.Why do we try and have sub par work inspected. To see what can get away with? To waste inspectors time?Heck , did not even follow contract that you wrote. Then claim will fix if fails.New idea, build right the first timeNow, he send receipts,After quick review, I see charges for item not used on my job.DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. They do sub par work, charge 3 times material estimate, then charge you for material not used on job.You said don't need to supervise, yet build and had to tare down due to code violation.Complaint filed, with NC DOJ and with BBB.I even offered for Mike and I together to,measure for, material list. Nothing on steps, are enclosed, so should be easy.He declined,

Appalachian Construction did a super job on re-staining our cabin deck. While they could have used an extra set of hands for the prep work, Matthew did a super job and we appreciated his finishing on-time and on budget. The deck looks super.

AC&H did an overall good job with the work we requested. They re-insulated our crawlspace, sealed a few doors, fixed a downspout and installed some outdoor steps. Communication wasn't perfect at times and that led to some issues with the dimensions of the installed steps, but it worked out ok in the end. The workers who were on site were very professional and got the job done quicker than anticipated.

I hired Appalachian Construction to finish a late 1800's farmhouse renovation started by another contractor. In short, they were amazing. So much work to be completed (and redone from previous contractor). I have done several house renovations over the years and cannot say enough about the crews' attention to detail. Not a square corner in this house but they managed to install the whole kitchen (cabinets, appliances, tile floor, etc) with few hiccups. I highly recommend App Construction for any job, and I will use them again for future projects. Communication was timely, clear and efficient. Pricing is fair (and worth every penny). Two thumbs up!

I was so happy to have found Appalachian Construction! It has been difficult to find a company to fix a variety of problems in my home. They were timely, professional, and extremely responsive. I am starting my spring list already! I highly reccommend them.

Communication was excellent, given my past experiences, and Boone from the construction industry I expected to have to chase them down to complete. They called, planned, the work out, showed up when supposed to and finished on time. I would use them again for sure.

Appalachian Construction did a few projects for us and were really easy to work with the whole time. Good communication and quality work. We’ll use them again.
