Not even sure where to begin. I'm almost glad they left us scrambling for a place. The manager was incredibly rude, and I had to gentle parent her when I was transferred to her line because she was immediately loud and defensive when I asked a question about application requirements, which they aren't upfront about. They're definitely, albeit quietly, doing what amounts to housing discrimination. I already recorded & reported that, but I thought I would just let any prospective renters know. You're better off with the Winkler Corporation, and that's REALLY saying something.

Absolutely terrible. Tired to get parking but saying my car is too big by .6 inches when I measured it and it’s not. The property manager was unprofessional and quite rude. No wonder their reviews are so low I can see why.

We are vacationing from out of town. I thought Boone, NC welcomed its tourists? I’m not in a hurry to return to Boone, NC any time soon after a really bad experience with predatory towing in this town. Apparently the lot we parked in was private, which was not clear from a dented/banged up sign at the entrance. (There was a second sign on the right, but my husband is blind in his right eye.) They towed our rented vehicle (obviously from out of town) within 30 minutes of being parked there (where’s the grace period?). We came back to no truck, called police, they immediately named the towing company (Bill’s garage) and gave me the telephone #, so they are fully aware of what is going on. The banged up, practically falling over signage doesn’t appear to meet legal requirements (NC Gen. Stat. 20‑219.2), they are lying in wait for out-of-towners to park there, and there wasn’t any documentation provided to us upon retrieval of the vehicle. Did I mention it started raining as we were walking the 30 minutes to the towing garage? And my cell phone had 3% battery? What a nightmare day of vacation. No thanks Boone, NC. I’ll go somewhere else next year.

Their parking leases are extremely expensive, they last through summer months just to milk college students for every last dime while they are at home, its extremely hard to even acquire a spot IN SUMMER because you have to purchase the lease from a student (the parking lot is empty because everyones at home). They will not allow me to get a spot because my 2013 HONDA ACCORD is TOO BIG??? For the parking lot?? (There are trucks and suvs i have seen there all year?) Overall 1400$ a year for a greedy, sorry and sad parking monopoly in boone. Find parking with someone else because this company wants to milk everything out of you.

Make sure you don’t park in this lot even with school out and on Saturday. You WILL be towed even if the Lot is Empty. Money Grab Company. Looks like the ratings show what kind of company this really is. Boone should be proud to host this company.

Our daughter lived at 120 Faculty St for 3 years. The location was literally on the edge of campus, hence the name Campus Point Apartments. Holton Mt Rentals was fantastic. A family run operation that takes pride in having safe and clean places for students to live. They were so attentive to minor maintenance requests. They changed out the refrigerator one Fall without being asked. The next year, our girls got a brand new washing machine and dryer. Someone in the office is always available to talk, usually picking up on the first ring. I cannot say enough about the quality of accommodation, care for their tenants plus the excellent customer service the Holton Mountain Family offers. I highly recommend using them for your student at Appalachian State.

All they do is jack up prices for nothing. “Refurbishing” apartment buildings takes well over five years. Work at the Horn avenue apartments started in 2016 or 2017. Is it done yet? No! Where is the extra rent actually going? Con artists.

Their rental units are deplorable. They have black mold problems. They even painted over black mold to cover it up. Beware!

GREEDY!!! Best word to describe this company. Lived with them for a year and realized how horrible their pricing and policies are for college students. I hate that they are still in business. Live elsewhere. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY BUSINESS.

Although we don't have a place with them yet, we greatly appreciate how helpful Kelly at the front desk was. It is very hard in Boone to find a accessible apartment for people with a handicap. Kelly went out of her way to explain ways in which they can help our roommate if we are able to get a place at one of their rentals. So far, they are definitely our number 1 pick!

I’ve just moved into a Holton property and Nancy has been so helpful and kind about all of our maintenance requests. She’s been very responsive and seems to care about the issues we’ve faced!

Terrible customer service. Rushed me on the phone, made me seem like I was a burden for calling and constantly told me that they are busy in the office and couldn’t help me with my needs. I believe my representative was Beverly.

have lived in Kensington meadows for two years now! unfortunately I can't stay do the rent rising again, however my time here has definitely been better than any other experience I've had in Boone! they are quick to communicate and fix any issues I've had! very professional! super friendly faces and always happy to help if they can! sometimes there are sucky situations that are out of their control, yes, but for the most part they have done their best to be good to us! the only reason I don't give 5 stars is because of the whole AC thing previously mentioned. no AC in the unit and they don't allow window units .... so basically no AC which can get pretty rough in the summer. took a minute for me to adjust to that even being legal, but I'm from the beach so AC is a legal requirement back home whereas heat is the legal requirement in the mountains! so technically they aren't doing anything illegal, but still very inconvenient:/

These people are liars, cheats, and take advantage of students at any given opportunity. Of course, the “ladies” in the office claim to be Christians. I suspect they will be in for a warm surprise one day.
When you move out, they will charge you for damage that you documented when you moved in. They will not actually fix it, because they are going to charge the next tenant for that damage as well. Even when presented with the documentation, they still said they could and would charge and there was nothing we could do about it. It took the threat of hashing it out in small claims court to get them to back down. I don’t think Jesus would be very approving of their unethical bullying and stealing.
They are so bad that it has been 5 years since I lived in one of their properties and it STILL crosses my mind occasionally.
Unless you want to be taken advantage of, live in substandard and unclean properties, and deal with dishonest staff, steer clear of Holton Mountain Rentals. They are the scummiest people I’ve ever interacted with and the mere sight of them makes me want to vomit.
(Exception: anyone hired since 2020, I haven’t dealt with and may be lovely people)
