Such a boring collection of sad looking specimens, seriously. I have more interesting plant life growing in my own garden at home.
this is what I'd imagine people who don't know anything worthwhile about gardening/landscaping would entail as being one. I think they're more concerned about native vs. non plant life really.

Plan on showing up early, and the Univ of NC Botanical Garden Plant Sales brings a lot of folks in they even need to have parking attendedants. Enjoy the Botanical Gardens after shopping to see what your future purchase will look like once matured.

There are two sections: the more formal gardens and the nature trails. The nature trails are the dog friendly area, the formal gardens do not allow dogs. I would recommend preparing for the nature trails like you would for any hike. They are wooded, lots of steps, and require bug spray.
The more formal gardens also require bug spray but are more accessible and walkable, especially by elderly people and those with mobility issues.
There are a variety of garden "types" which were very interesting and I appreciated the emphasis on native (Carolina) plants and the indigenous incorporation into the exhibit and landscapes. The center is clearly very knowledgeable and runs a lot of classes which I am looking forward to looking into.
The reason I gave a three-star rating is because the gardens have been clearly affected by budget cuts and it is showing, particularly in the signage. For example, three times we thought we had passed the poison garden but had not in fact reached it. Some of the signs were in bad states of disrepair to the point of being unreadable. Several times in walking we had questions about a plant and there was no way to get more information. The whole place also felt really overgrown.

It's the first time I went, I didn't walk much, I just stopped by to see a little to make sure my disabled son can visit the place. Beautiful place...

The North Carolina Botanical Garden is a pleasant place to visit, offering many beautiful flowering plants to appreciate as well as a trail. In these photos, we are in front of Elephant Rock which you can access by exploring the trails. Tickets are not needed for entry, and the staff in the gift shop were both knowledgeable and friendly. There are public restrooms for visitors to use, and parking is free. Please check out our YouTube channel, Adventures With Dan & Tracie, for our upcoming trail footage as well as ideas for other travel adventures.

I can’t say enough about this gem of a garden we have in the Triangle. There are different garden areas for different types of plants or ecosystems. There is something interesting to see here year-round. Or just a place to get away and walk the trails. They propagate native plants and sell them daily. Check often as the variety is different all the time. A must see place for educational outing or just enjoying nature.

Love this botanical garden! I usually visit Duke gardens but this place is a treasure trove of native plants! It is so refreshing to experience a garden that actually benefits our local ecology. I went with my mom and new baby, it was mostly easy to navigate with a stroller but some paths were very narrow and had too many exposed roots for a stroller (might also be a challenge for folks with accessibility needs). The majority of the garden was easy to get to. Lovely day spent here!
