Terrible customer service. We have had three mortgages with SECU over the past seven years. We have never been late on a mortgage payment in that same time. I received a call from Haley stating that SECU had not received our mortgage payment, which is automated. She advised checking with our bank to confirm it was dispensed and if it was, to call the SECU branch as sometimes the local branches may cash it late. We confirmed the check was sent in time on our end, but nevertheless, we received a 26 dollar late fee. When we called the Chapel Hill SECU branch to explain the situation, they refused to reverse the late fee even though they cashed the check late on their end. They kept passing us off to different departments, including debt collection. However each department kept saying it was not within their authority to reverse any late fees, they couldn’t confirm it wasn’t a post office error, etc.In an effort to sort this issue out today, I called this branch and it rang endlessly. Somebody picked up, who wasn’t from the branch, transferred me allegedly to the branch. I ended up speaking to LaShonda who asked a supervisor, who refused to reverse the late fee. When I asked who the supervisor was, she couldn’t specifically tell me his name because she stated every time they call it’s a different supervisor. She could give me her supervisor’s name, Jeffrey. Then she offered to transfer me to the branch, which I thought I was talking to anyway. I accepted, and after being on hold for another five minutes, Karen from mortgage services answered. She is also, unsurprisingly, not at the intended branch. She also could not reverse the late fee. The best she could recommend was going down in person and asking for a manager. She could not offer any contact information for a manger there. So in short, if you would like to funnel hundreds of thousands of dollars into a bank that proceeds to slap you with arbitrary late fees due to uncontrollable circumstances even after having a perfect payment history, this is the bank for you. Bonus points for nobody ever being around to pick up the phone and when they do, transferring you endlessly to more people who can’t remedy the situation.I am incredibly disappointed at how they treat long term customers and would hesitate to do future business with them.

Thank you is an understatement! SECU in Chapel Hill on Elliott Dr deserves phenomenal customer service award for the year!! Flor and Rose went above and beyond to help my husband and me with a loan. What made the difference in this loan and the many other loans we have received is simply put the customer service. They care! They genuinely care! About their customers!! Thank-you SECU! You have our business! Forever!-Jack and Sandi -

The employees are what makes this place so special. I have been helped with enthusiasm and kindness every time I have gone to the bank or needed help on the phone. Great work!

Great Branch, have been a member my whole life. Can someone explain why Money Market and Savings Interest Rates are so far behind the Curve? I hear people are getting 1.9% and so far SECU has only inched up to 0.40%. ?

This location can't get it together. Barely answer phone, so you can't even get any help.

I have banked there for over 30 years. People are always courteous and helpful. My children bank there and my grandchildren have accounts there as well. I would rather bank here than in any commercial bank.

You are better off using a bank. I switched to this bank because they didn't have Chase in NC. I'm switching back now that they are here. The phone customer service manager Colin needs sensitivity training. After 6 years I'm closing my account. There service has declined. I'm taking my business elsewhere. Be forewarned.

Rashae Alston - CSR was incredibly helpful, friendly and professional. He assisted me with adding another person to an account and it involved forwarding information to another branch for completion. This transaction was done promptly and flawlessly. To top it off, he took the time to call me the next morning to assure me that everything was complete and good to go. Much appreciated-excellent customer service!!
