Been buying their 1-lb. tub of jumbo lump crab meat for a few years now from Costco in Maryland for making crab cakes. Delicious, better than any locally processed jumbo lump available here. Only once did we get a tub with some shell in it. Now we know why Costco hasn't had any in stock for the past few weeks. Shocked.

Reading the latest local news where I live on this company. There charged with and found guilty of fraud. Selling imported crab meat from overseas as local his excuse the article said he couldn't keep up with the demand. So y pou folks that bought his crab meat at costco's and other retailers. Who knows what country that meat was from lol. Over 4 million dollars worth in the arrival.

You get what you pay for. This crab meat is NOT LOCAL! The owner of the seafood house just admitted yesterday in local court that he's been selling crab imported from South America and Asia as locally caught. Liar, liar, pants on fire! Philip Carawan is a neighbor of mine, and I've always thought there was something shady about his businesses. Now I know for sure. Here's a link: Don't buy the Oysters either.

Sam's Club in Maryland sells Capt. Neill's backfin for $21 a pound. Just finished crabcakes made with it. They were great and when picked, the meat didn't have a lot of shell in it. This is our second year buying it and we'll continue to do so!

So I have purchased the Capt Neill's Jumbo Lump Crab Meat from Costco a few times now and it is good stuff. Maybe not the best I ever had, as living in the DC area I have access to extremely fresh blue crabs. But it is darn good, and considering what Costco charges, I can get it for considerably less money than other local sources. I have used it in pasta dishes and of course in crab cakes. Never disappointed. I like the fact that it is domestic - there have been a lot of health warnings associated with crab meat from Central and South America. And what a disgrace that a Baltimore institution like Philips, who falsely proclaims that they are Maryland's Crab ambassadors - now actually sources their crab meat from Vietnam and the Philippines. Uh . . . no. Thank goodness that there are still companies like Capt Neill's who care about quality and offer their customers genuine domestic premium blue crab meat.

I am from the Midwest and can't get enough decent crab cakes. I recently visited Maryland and my family purchased Capt Neill's from Costco. We called the company from the store and asked about the salt content. They said they don't add anything to their crab packaging unlike the Phillips brand that is harvested from Indonesia. We thoroughly enjoyed our lump crab cakes 3 nights in a row. Yum! It did smell fishy when we opened the pkg but decided to take a chance. Costco has it delivered fresh 3 times a week and the expiration date was well within limits. I am now looking up where I could possibly buy it here near Chicago. Last Christmas all I could find was Chicken of the Sea brand and felt I had to settle. Going to look harder this Christmas.

Just bought two pounds of Capt Niells crab meat from Costco. I opened both sealed container and the meat was grey and smelled like ammonia. So now do I go back to Costco and buy the crab meat from Phillips (a product of Vietnam) or do I take another chance? I think I will pass on both. Maybe I will just just drive to another store and find some product that is locally harvested. After reading the other reviews I will not support a business that doesn't hold quality to being the highest of importance. What the heck is going on with the food quality in the US?
