BUYER BEWARE! Be sure to learn about all aspects of this community.Memory care is a cramped area rooms are double occupancy in 250 square feet (at best). There is absolutely no personal space for individuals going through MAJOR changes in their lives. The administration (Executive Director, Memory Care/Skilled Nursing Director, Social Worker, etc.)knew nothing about how to appropriately work with different types of dementia (which is odd since that's their job).Even after my offer to help them understand (Frontotemporal Dementia) they resisted/refused my input. The Executive Director and Memory care administration (during my LO stay) were lacking in their knowledge of, compassion for, & understanding of how to appropriately work with my LO.My LO was "blamed" for her behavior(as they knew nothing about her & didn't know how to approach her appropriately). They sent her "away" multiple times (during a pandemic)within the first four months of admission due to their lack of knowledge and understanding of my LO and type of dementia (FTD) she was diagnosed. My LO declined rapidly due to TE insistence on SEVERE chemical restraint! Upon return from the second "required" medical management stay(5 weeks…which I now know is UNHEARD of) my LO could no longer walk, could no longer stand, & could no longer feed herself. When she did return they immediately took her off medication that was prescribed while she was in the facility, negating their reasoning for sending her in the first place (for 5 weeks). The ED essentially asked us to leave, eventually we did.Be sure to ask questions. Insist on seeing ALL aspects of the facility.Interview the directors of each level of care.We never thought we'd leave ACTS or TE but administration (the ED) literally shared with me that she thought "our relationship was unrepairable" (before we decided to leave). The director of Memory Care/skilled nursing was VERY inexperienced & immature (both his approach & compassion were lacking in every way).He made promises which he never followed through. A very frustrating & difficult situation. A new DON, hired prior to my LO return for the second med. management, & was much more attentive to the disease & my LO needs. Unfortunately..too little too late LITERALLY “the damage was done”(the previous DON was atrocious!).Home health was also totally negligent and incompetent (while being paid for their service)…that’s another story! Prospective residents & families should be aware of this neglect.THIS SHOUD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED THE WAY IT DID!!! This had NOTHING to do with the pandemic; it had everything to do with the fact that the administration(ED, Memory Care administrator, head nurse, & social work & home health)were stubborn, uneducated, & unwilling to listen, unwilling to learn, & unwilling to truly understand how to work with individuals with dementia (FTD) & their families. It is honestly shameful! They stole precious time from us & caused added stress to a very stressful situation.Changed our lives & my loved one's life DRASTICALLY! In response to comments from TE.I have shared & discussed many of these issues with corporate. If they wish to discuss things further, they know how to contact me (they have not done so at this point).I hope that other ACTS communities do a better job than TE.This community & the administration (the Executive Director & Memory care/skilled nursing care administrator & social worker & home health) who were in charge during my LO stay were NOT skilled/knowledgeable, NOT compassionate & NOT attuned to appropriate care or care planning. They choose to SEVERELY chemically restrain my LO while they neglected to learn anything about my LO, her disease or her struggle. It was their way of ‘dealing with’ her to ease their burden.Their "motto" is "to strive to provide a positive experience for everyone",well..Tryon Estates has a LONG WAY TO GO to reach that goal.A positive experie

After living in the comfort and worry free environment of Tryon Estates for nineteen years, I believe that we made the right choice for personal happiness. There is not a worry or care that this community has not helped us to get through. It is the best gift we could have given our children. This place is lovely to look at, located in a great area, and serviced by some of the most caring and loving people I know. Never have I regretted this wonderful opportunity. Everything here has lived up to its promise. Thank you. Kaye M.Steele

We are glad that we moved to Tryon Estates. There are plenty of activities, the employees can’t do enough for you, there is a safe, quiet secure small town atmosphere, our fellow residents are friendly and the health care is excellent. Given better dining arrangements I would give them five stars.

Once again, I have trusted someone and lived to regret it. I believed the marketing when I invested and enrolled in Tryon Estates as my life-care community. The ambiance was delightful, the food was good, the landscaping was pristine, and the people who live here were genuine and friendly. Over the years I have watched it decline. The newest generation of management seems to be enamored with the immediate "high" of closing the deal, rather than the overall lasting satisfaction and enjoyment of taking a prolonged responsibility to its fruition. The new décor is modern and not to my taste at all. I preferred the stately elegance evident when I first moved to Tryon Estates. The new furniture provided for our common areas is large, ungainly and much of it is upholstered in pleather, so there is no place to sit comfortably. Perhaps the marketing thought behind that choice was to keep residents out of the lobby areas, cluttering up the place.Food quality has gone down steadily since my move here. Where I once enjoyed the socialization of eating often with my friends and neighbors, in the past three years I have had to cook for myself more and more to avoid the sauces, gravies and marinades, filled with sugar or some other kind of sweetener. I have also noticed that the quality of food on the menu is much lower than when I moved here. That fact has nothing to do with the construction project of the past three years or the temporary relocation of the dining facility. A good chef can only do just so much when provided with lower quality ingredients. My glass is half full. I have a place to hang my hat. It no longer has the refined atmosphere where I had happily anticipated living out my days. I am truly uncomfortable, but feel blessed by those who live around me. This retirement community may well be the place "where loving kindness lives", but it surely isn't a place where management cares. It seems the only interest is in marketing to an invisible, plastic demographic they now wish to attract as residents. I know I am not alone in my thinking or my feelings. I trusted this group. That trust was obviously misplaced and has now been almost completely broken. Moving-out is not an option I want to take. I have friends here.
