The Corolla Wild Horse Fund is the official and only non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, conserving, and responsibly managing the herd of wild Colonial Spanish Mustangs roaming freely on the northernmost Currituck Outer Banks. Their mission is to promote the continued preservation of this land as a permanent sanctuary for these horses, which are designated as the State Horse and defined as a cultural treasure by the state of North Carolina. Visitors can explore the organization's store and museum in Corolla to learn all about the wild horses and support the herd. The museum staff is known for their warm welcome and wealth of information about the horses. The gift shop offers a range of historical and educational items, with all proceeds benefiting the herd. The organization also operates a rescue farm, which is described as a healing and enjoyable place to visit. Guests can meet the horses, some of which are talented artists, and appreciate the beautiful countryside. The farm is open to the public for a few hours each week. In addition, the Corolla Wild Horse Fund partners with various tour companies to offer guided tours, allowing visitors to see the wild horses in their natural habitat. These tours are highly recommended, with knowledgeable and friendly guides, and are suitable for families with young children.
Visited the museum/shop after taking a wild horse tour and I’m happy I did. The shop is cute and has a lot of options and the best part is the proceeds go to helping the horses! The woman behind the desk (I wish I would have gotten her name) was helpful and we had a nice talk about the horses and conservation.

Be sure to get a responsible person or Safaris company to take you and family to see the wild horses. It never gets old. Fun every time. There is something for everyone to do.
