Had our heart set on a sweet kitten that we were told couldn't be picked up until 6 days later because of a recent spaying. We call on the day she's supposed to be eligible for adoption and find out we had been misled and that she is already adopted. Beware of misinformation at this location and a lack of communication.

If you have found an animal, if there are kittens, or whatever else, please reach out to all friends for support or a private organization.APS of Durham will euthanize your animal or will put them in a situation to contract a disease. This is coming from someone who volunteered there for close to a year.

I expressed interest in a stray dog I found who was malnourished but knew basic commands like “sit” “shake” and “crate.” He had zero issue with our dog the night he stayed with us. I turned him in in case someone would claim him (the legal thing to do). I was told I’d get a call on Monday after Veterans Day weekend. I called that Tuesday and was told bluntly that THEY would call ME when the dog was ready to be adopted after a medical exam. I waited another week and a half before I called again. They euthanized the dog. I asked why and they said he was “aggressive and barky.” Do we put dogs down for barking now? I understand this is a stressful job, but they really dropped the ball when we were trying to help. I will never use their services again.

Animal "Protection" Society is the most ironic name for this place. They do not protect animals. My partner found the sweetest pup at the park. The poor dog was emaciated, but was still friendly to both him and my dog. This dog was obviously owned by someone before because he was house and crate trained, as well as neutered. We took him there to get him checked for a chip and let them use their resources to help find the previous owner. We left our info and said that if no one came forward that we would like to adopt him. My partner called after that weekend. He was spoken to rudely and told that they would call us when the dog was ready. We hadn't heard anything for weeks, so he called again today just to find out that they put him down. They didn't tell us or try to contact us to save him. They claimed he was barking and aggressive. When you have been starving and alone on the streets and then suddenly in a loud noisy building with strangers, how do you think a scared animal may react? Oh, also they still have his picture on the website even though they've already killed him.TLDR: Don't bring animals here unless you want them to be killed. They have a better chance on the street.

We adopted a kitten two months ago and received great customer service and assistance throughout the entire process. There was a young lady who walked us through the shelter, answered questions, and helped us make the best choice. Our Petals is doing great!

This is a great place to find your next best friend. There are so many dogs, cats, and small animals that need loving homes. We had a birthday party and asked all of our guests to bring a bag of dog or cat food, treats, etc. to donate. We filled up our van. We just got through dropping it all off, and they were excited to get it. Every little bit helps! They also need volunteers to help walk dogs, feed and water, bath, clean litterboxes, etc.

Friendly & helpful staff helped us pick up some kittens to foster. They made it super easy, made sure we had everything we needed, and helped us quickly get started home with these cute kittens.

they told a man that they couldnt take his kitten and it had nothing wrong with it, they didnt offer helpful solutions or anything and were not friendly at all as i was bringing in donations. I took the kitten thankfully, but this is why people dump animals. If they euthanize animals here that is absolutely disgusting and they will have to live with those consequences. Still adopt from this shelter because my guess is that we need to get these innocent creatures out of there.

I'm VERY disappointed with this shelter. I found 2 huskies about a week ago or so that I think had been abandoned. I wish I could have kept them but I already have a reactive bad dog, 2 cats, live in a small apartment and am moving to Florida so I had called animal control to come pick them up. They were the SWEETEST dogs and very friendly. You could tell the male/female pair were bonded to each other.I posted on multiple FB groups about the lost dogs and where to adopt them if any one was interested. It seems like this shelter didn't do everything they could have to find the owners as I never saw them listed on the website in the lost/found section. My husband called the shelter a few times to keep tabs and see if the owners were found.TODAY at 12:30pm I got a call asking if we wanted to adopt or foster the dogs because they were scheduled to be euthanized at 3pm today. The reason: "did pass the behavior test and are aggressive so they can't be adopted by the general public." I explained to them I find that really hard to believe because they were so sweet to a complete stranger when I found them and that it might just be the fact of the environment they are currently in and are afraid because they are separated. The fact that they called me only 2.5 hours before being euthanized and put me in a position to try to help these dogs while I'm at work is ridiculous, especially since we have called to keep tabs on the dogs.As an animal lover, I have been trying to find these dogs homes since I found them and now I am very sad and feel at blame for the fact these beautiful animals are going to be put down. I wish AC gave me an option on what shelter to take them too.If they had known that these dogs didn't "pass the test" they should have let me know well in advance so I could of had time to figure out other plans. I have tried to call back multiple times today and couldn't get back through to them.

They do a great job trying to meet the needs and adopt animals out. They also run a foster program which helps balance shelter capacity as well as work with the dogs in a home situation.

The staff were fantastic! I encountered 2 strays the staff assisted with getting them medicated, chipped, and finding their owners. If you are looking for a dog please consider the shelter.

This shelter does not care about animals, it is a kill shelter. A stray dog that we had taken in went to a foster home, where he got hurt and was brought to this shelter. We went to pick up the dog and take care of him ourselves, and they told us he was scheduled to be euthanized that same evening and there was nothing we could do. I would not trust APS with any animals

Really appreciate the quality chiropractic care and the warm helpful staff at The Joint in Chapel Hill. No appointment necessary makes it so easy that I've been going for more than five years and I feel great!
