Unfortunately I had a similar experience to others here. After a 7 week wait I received a vinyl storage bookshelf of very poor workmanship. The wood was extremely rough under the stain as if it wasn't sanded, the stain itself was blemished by numerous drips and a clear ring mark from the can right in the top of the shelving unit, and there are deep scratches in several places.

I’ve bought many things from here and have had them make me multiple custom cabinets. The work is excellent and I assure you, I will be buying from them again.

Worked here less than 2 days. Entire place is full of mold and the "craftsmen" are just husband and wife immigrant couples that are extremely underpaid and taken advantage of. The entire warehouse/shop is full of black mold the roof leaks everywhere, there is 1 small exhaust fan in the paintbooth (using that word very loosely) that barely pulls any air and has no filters so plenty of pollution happening. I was handed a dust mask to spray stain and paint... The entire place stays full of dust and mold smell. I can assure you the people who have been there a long time have and will have terrible health issues! And on top of all of that I was never paid for my time worked.pics are of the paintbooth, and rot in the ceiling as well as the mold in the break room beside the refrigerator.

Paid for custom bookshelves that were to be completed in 10 weeks. The guy who I spoke with seems to fully understand what I wanted. After 18 weeks, I received bookshelves of hideously poor workmanship.UPDATE: finally installing the cabinet pulls and finding more flaws. The doors are not the same size, warped, not plumb and the soft close hinges push them in past the frame. The more I look, the worse the workmanship is.OLD PART: 4 of the doors were clearly cut too short and corrected with adding an extra piece. The stain is completely uneven. There are edges that were cut with a dull saw and the edges are torn vs. cleanly cut.Sadly, I left them wrapped up 2 months and was disappointed when I finally saw what I had paid for. By this time, I needed the shelves so I sucked it up and kept them. And now whenever I look at them, I don’t see the bookshelves that I’d always dreamed of, I see the poor quality that cost me too much. :-(

TLDR: shoddy construction, delivers in personal pickup truck by himself, very poor communication and expectation setting. I(and my wallet - I'm out $1000) regret ever stepping foot in this business. I love wooden furniture and buying locally so waking to floor and seeing some nice pieces and the ability to pick your stain really appealed to me. I picked two pieces - one a smoker that I had customized to have shelves to use as a bureau and paid half up front with a note it's take 6-8 weeks to get. I waited over 8 weeks before calling and being told they were ready and would be delivered that week. That day comes and goes. I call again. Once again, it's ready and coming out and oh - can they deliver after 7pm? Uh, what? Again, no call and no show. I finally call and say it needs to be delivered or I will need to request a refund. I was told they would deliver two days from then and will call the day before to confirm the time. Again, the call day passes and I call on the supposed delivery day saying cancel, I'm done....and what do you know? They can deliver right then and can't issue a refund. Note: the paperwork says nothing about no refunds or returns. Anyway, I did want the pieces so I said go ahead and deliver. The guy showed up in his personal truck alone. Charging me $80 for the pleasure that was a personal check to him...smells great, no? The smoker was a mess and he tried to tell me he rushed to finish it...but the other piece had dust on it?? The paint had dripped and one of the doors hung wrong so there was a large gap. This man tried to tell me that was by design. I'm so tired of it at this point that I said I wasn't paying for it unless it was fixed. He took it back and put a piece in to fix the door and fixed the paint and brought it back. Only reason they got one star is the guy was nice and clearly a hard worker. But seriously, do not buy from Durham Bookcases. Quality does not exist and you will have to hunt them to actually get your furniture in the same century. I am so mad every time I look at my two pieces that I'm not even enjoying them. I will end up getting rid of at least the smoker.

I loved the place. They have many options of ready-made furniture or by design. They can be bought painted or unpainted, which I think is great in case customers, like me, want an unusual color or a different finish than usual. Very good option. Adrian's attention was wonderful. Thanks Adrian.

They got the job done eventually, I’ll give them that. After telling me it would take “a couple of weeks” to complete, it actually took 2 months. The quality was not particularly great either. I’m all for buying local, but if I had it to do over again, I would hire a local handyman. It would most likely be higher quality and completed on time (probably a lower price too)

I would love to post a good review, but they are unable to provide prices on their not particularly helpful website, and when you email them they are also unable to provide a price list. So...guess they don't want my business? It's 2021, we've been in a pandemic for a year, this isn't hard stuff. Very frustrating.

Great place, lots of really nice furniture made with real wood, and very polite people who work there.

They built beautiful shelving and cubby bookcases for us years ago that have lasted in quality and durability. Highly recommend for any business or private home.

Too expensive for what they offer.

Solid wood furniture at a fair price. Nothing too fancy -- if you are looking for designer pieces made from exotic hardwoods this isn't the place. Nor does it compete with Ikea for very low end stuff.

We own several pieces of wood furniture from here--some over 20 years old and still in perfect condition. I'm so glad I drove past their store years ago and I intend to check them out for all my wood furniture purchases.

Well pleased We ordered a pair of heavy duty customized bookshelves a year ago to upgrade our living room. We paid good money, and we got good quality. I was just looking up at the handsome beasts and thinking how pleased I still was with them; how I should write a review. So here it is.
