I do not recommend US Storage in downtown Durham. They will lure you in with a reasonable rental rate and, after a few months, they will increase it by 100-200% with no explanation. If you try to call and renegotiate the rate, no one will return your calls. Only one of the elevators in the building works. The third floor often reeks of marijuana, and on more than one occasion, I suspected that individuals were sleeping inside the building. Do yourself a favor and rent a unit elsewhere.

What started as a good experience quickly turned bad when my monthly rent was increased from $30 to $115 with no explanation. Multiple calls and requests to discuss this yielded zero information. I requested a call from the Property Manager (Francesca) 4 times and never received a single call. I requested a call from the District Manager (Ryan) 2 times and never received a single call. It was clear that my business didn't matter to them or anyone at US Storage. I was just a guy with a unit and they'd try to pull a fast one on my and increase my rent by 4x. Well, if my business isn't wanted, then I'm gone. After waiting 2 weeks for someone to call me, I found a different storage company and moved my stuff out in 2 days. Bye bye.

I have been a tenant for years. I recently downgraded to a smaller unit. However, under the management of Zuri Pinckney, Jekera Wilkins, and Mayi Johnson, it is now their corporate policy to increase the rental upwards of 100% after 4 months. This is nowhere in the contract. When you complain, they will say that the increase reflects "market demand". When you go online to check "market demand", you will see that they are offering the same unit at a price that is over 200% LESS than what they are charging you. When you demand the online rate, they say that is is only for new and returning customers - even though no such terms and conditions are disclosed on the US Storage website. They will then offer to contact the phantom "District Manager" on your behalf to ask for a lower rate (but not as low as the online rate). According to Zuri, Jekera and Mayi - this phantom manager will only respond within 48-72 hours. When you ask for the phantom manager's contact details, they refuse to provide them.
Do as I did and report US Storage and their fraudulent and predatory practices to the North Carolina Consumer Protection Division. You may also want to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau where US Storage has an "F" rating for their repeated failure to respond to customer complaints.

I rented their largest unit (10×30) in March 2024 at $179/mo. They surprise me in June 2024 with and rate increase of $149 for a new monthly total of $328. Don't trust these guys. Lastly, the loading dock is super small, they have few carts to use to move your goods and you have to punch in a 7 digit security code each time you come in the door. Only 4 parking spaces to unload from too, 5, one is handicap. Prime example of corp greed:/ Update as of Jan 2025, they raised the rent another $150+ dollars. The 10x30 is now $475 /mo, triple the amount I signed on at in March of 2024.

We’ve been renting here for several years. Rent has gone up by more than a hundred dollars a month during that time. The customer service is terrible. The facilities are not maintained. We’ve had a light out in front of our unit for over 6 months and it’s hard to see in the common hall and our unit despite multiple requests to fix it. Update 12/10/24: They have now fixed the light, but our rent has now increased by an additional $100/ month without any official notification.

Mayi was such great help the other day and I would like her supervisors to know that. I have been waiting for my refund for over a month, but when I called and spoke with her she was very polite and professional. She was able to notify me within a couple hours that my refund was taken care of by her district manager. If I have any storage needs in the future I will definitely be back to this location because I know she will take great care of my needs.

I started my unit in August, with an initial month at half price ~$40 and then each month after at ~$80. After three months, they bumped up my rent to ~$140. And I am just realizing this has happened to others if you read other reviews. I am realizing that this is their business strategy, they offer a rent that is appealing to consumers and then suddenly bump the price significantly.
Unfortunately, I didn’t read the contract fully while signing it and it is my mistake but I never expected a business would do something like this. It is obvious that once you move your belongings into the storage, it is hard to change plans and move your belongings to somewhere else. So, this is taking advantage of costumers.
It is a bottom low and basically means that they just want to rip off consumers. I am going to leave this storage sooner than I wanted, and just alarm anyone else about this place.
If you want to have a good business, respect your costumers!
