I really had bad experience in this store , Southpoint mall, Durham, NC. I had to return couple of items which I bought the previous day. The cashier was available doing nothing, no customer was there it was Friday evening. She told me to go upstairs and return there, and I said you are not busy why don’t you handle this? I had receipt items with tags with no issues. But this lady was so so lazy that she wanted me to go upstairs. When i said ok let me speak to your manager. Then one guy not the manager came and told her it was upto her. Finally she took the return. I will never give my business to JC Penny anymore. This lazy lady should be fired.

Socks were a mess at opening! Literally only one person on the floor and one cleaning person. Not enough staff for the holiday rush. This was sad.

I love shopping here, they closed the one in Raleigh NC where I live so I drive to the Durham NC location.

They have everything. To give you your tastes. For gifts. Etc. Clothing, jewelry, shoes, cologne, perfumes, etc.

Yesterday 12/13/24 we had a session for 5:30pm and when we arrived there were a lot of people waiting. I was told they are just a few minutes beyond well we waited almost two hours and that’s only because we kept asking when is our turn. They will charge you a fee if you don’t cancel but they don’t give out any incentive for waiting so long. I have been a customer for over 20 years they have lost my business. The manager didn’t say anything the many times she showed her face she needs to be fired! The excuse was short staff in actuality they over booked people then didn’t want to own up to it so let me just wait and wait! I will be making a complaint to corporate as well!

WOW! I haven’t been to JCPenney’s in about 10-12 years. But we will definitely will be returning. We needed the Grinch’s dog Max costume ASAP, for our photo Christmas cards. Penny had it! We ordered it online, and was texted within a few hours - come pick it up!
When we got there, we ran into the store manager Frank. This guy needs a raise or a promotion!! What a fantastic attitude and positive energy he had! He walked us over to where we needed to pick up the costume and then quickly served us. What a terrific experience!! And Frank had an injured arm!!
Please let Frank know that we truly appreciated the attitude and experience we had at your store! Frank keep up the GREAT JOB!!

Reservations at JCP are like going to the crappy McDonald on page rd in Durham!

Only one place to return items and only two places to purchase, one of which was the return counter. Not enough for such a big store.

Went here to get our daughter's 6 month photos/some family photos. The day we went the internet was down, the flash wasn't working, and the camera even stopped working for a time. The were running about 30 min behind but this is standard because the company overbooks and understaffs them. The photographer did the best she could under the circumstances but she was definitely distracted with everything going on and I felt rushed through the pictures we did take. Ultimately we ended up paying $200+ for something I didn't like and I was so emotional about it in the car, that my husband went in to talk to them about a refund/retake. Their manager Jen was called and we were told we can't get a refund but that they could retake them. She was called again and we were told there would be no charge.
We come back on Wednesday and our session with Ellie was amazing. She captured everything we wanted. We get up front to get our pictures and we're told after another call to Jen that they will take 50% off the session fee and $70 off the digital album. That is not doing it at no charge and now we have to spend another $140 to get the photos we actually wanted even though it's their fault they weren't good in the first place. Very disappointed in the experience overall and definitely won't be coming back
