Just had a great experience at REI. Was pleasantly surprised to realize that they are relatively size inclusive and has many items in up to at least women’s 3x. I feel like pretty much every company could be doing better at including folks in larger bodies, but I definitely appreciate REI for doing better than many places and actually having larger sizes stocked in the store (not just online).

I came in to use my reward card and made a nice purchase of just three items that I needed for outdoor road biking. Guess what? I was carded to “be sure” it was my reward. The cashier asked to see my ID to be sure it was my reward. She goes I know you brought it in but, I still need to check your ID! So if my kid came into the store to use my reward would it be a problem?!! Also when I walked in around 3pm EST broad daylight - no one greeted me into the store. This is in the middle of Durham, NC. Also, some young lady of a representative of the store came around me and walked by super close - not just once but twice - maybe even three times to see what it was I doing around the clothing area section as well / and never said a word to me - not even to see If I needed help with a size or anything…. This will probably be the last time I will ever walk into this store. The racial profiling is super ridiculous and being an actual member of this store is just not what I am proud of. I make six figures and I live in the South Point area. Not only that I am a native of Durham NC. I promise you - If I need anything in the future - I’ll be sure to shop online instead. My visit today - was a Trash representation of what buying sporting goods is about. I should ask for a refund as well. Just despicable. Poor customer service.

IMO the store organization has improved as has customer service. Things were more organized and shelves were stocked.

I went to this REI to look for a backpack, but I was struggling to figure out what exactly I needed, and this employee named Chris came up and helped me out. He was very knowledgable, kind, easygoing and thorough with taking my measurements and telling me about all the different options for hiking backpacks, then he even filled a backpack with weights and had me walk around the store and make adjustments as needed. This is a great place to go if you're new to hiking and camping and need some help to get you started. It's worth it to go in person for the expertise provided!

Bike staff was outstanding in every respect: responsive, thoughtful, efficient, prompt, and highly skilled. Went in for a tubeless wheel setup and it was done with perfection in under 15 min. REI is fortunate to have such a great staff. I just read from another review about the possibility of unions there. I hope valuable people like those in the bike shop realize they deserve protections to enjoy some decency in employment. Good people all around. They deserve the best.

Out of the three REIs in the Triangle Area, this one has the best ReSupply area (formerly Garage Sale). I am always able to find shoes or clothes in my size at a great value. Parking in this shopping area is a bit crazy and not my favorite. The changing rooms need to be opened by a staff member and once you press the button present- the staff is usually really quick in their response. I've noticed REI prices have increased lately but the quality of the items remains good.

I ordered a pair of shoes online for in store pick up. I went to the store to pick them up. I admit, I was an hour earlier than the estimated pick up time, but they had the shoes in stock (I actually had them in my hands...) -- however when I went to check-out and showed them my order number, they couldn't find it -- it wasn't in their system. So, I couldn't get the shoes (I had used my one-time rewards discount). Their in store staff was apologetic, but they said there was nothing they could do. So, as of now (24 hrs later) I still don't have notification that I can pick up the shoes. Compare this to Target -- I placed an online order for an in stock item, and got an email 15 minutes later telling me my item was ready for pick up. REI online ordering and instore pick up is a joke. And you can't call anyone to talk to them about it and you can't cancel your order!!! You have to "speak" to a chat bot. What an archaic system -- I expect with the current increase in online ordering REI will likely not survive -- their customer service stinks -- something they used to be known for.

update: it looks like the employees @REI Durham have successfully unionized and i'm glad to see there have been some efforts to remedy the situation.REI Durham has currently put an employee on administrative leave for his involvement in trying to form a local union. While I like REI’s products, this behavior shows no regard for their employees’ wellbeing or humanity, and I’m deeply disappointed in the management. I will be buying online or at other REI locations because I believe in workers’ rights.@REI Durham management, I hope you do correct your actions so that your employees are treated humanely as fellow human beings.

Great bike shop service. I had a chain rub issue with the front derailleur in my road bike. I had spent about 2-3 hrs playing with it the day before and ended up making it worse :( I walked in and they were able to fix it in 10-15 mins right then and there! (Special shout out out to Patrick)! Great and very knowledgeable service!

I would like to give a shout out to Jeremy my bike doctor! My bike chain got out of wack and the bike became unridable. He was able to quickly rectify the chain problem and gave me some good tips to go with. Terrific bike shop!
