The rich history of Edenton starts at the home of Penelope Barker. Admission into this beautiful home is free, and make sure you spend time reading all the signs in the home. Step back into time and learn about Penelope Barker and family, the Edenton Tea Party, and more about Edenton. Also enjoy the porch and the incredible waterfront view of Edenton!

This was so amazing. The history inside is awesome. I did not know that Edenton had so much untaught history. What the ladies done by sending a letter to England was unheard of and never taught. The African Builders that built the town also were never taught. My wife and I learned a lot while enjoying a guided tour on the tram. I recommend the guided tram tour.there is so much to do and see. It's a good day trip.

I love this place!!!! They have 2 floors of history about the Barker family and the tea party. They have beautiful oil paintings. A lot of history about the Daughters of the republic. I loved the gift shop. Beautiful Christmas ornaments and spoons and tea cup sets

We met the most wonderful folks here, starting with Marcia and then the trolley driver Chris & docent Barbara. It was a lovely experience, the house is so interesting and Marcia answered every question we had about the area, the history and even guidance to a Realtor, MaryScott at Sotheby's. Every shop in town waved as our trolley tour went by, Chris and Barbara were excellent town representatives, we learned so much in an hour's time!We look forward to making Edenton our new home and each person we met just confirmed that we belong here.

I enjoyed happening along this place. We stopped in Edenton to see the historic waterfront and found this treasure.I had no idea who Penelope Barker was. I had never heard about her tea party resolution. I found the museum very informative. It was neat how you can see the inside of the walls. (the ceiling is sagging in there because of the missing wall pieces). There are period correct dresses and slippers worn by the people that lived in this home. There are lots of local books for sale. A neat one that caught my eye was a book about all of the historical houses in Edenton, and their individual history. The museum is free to visit. We will definitely be back to explore this town more

Nice park area on the water. Nice dock area where you can fish. Self guided tour of the house was educational and when we were there, there was a local historian talking about the area. There is a nice gift shop with reasonable prices and some great photo opportunities. If you're visiting the area Barker House is worth a look.

We were greeted by an excellent curator that provided us a very warm Welcome into the Barker House. The house is a beautiful step back in time with period antiques and a very nice gift shop. I purchased a Tea House cookbook and was amazed by the recipes along with beautiful historical notes of the area. You must stop in while visiting Edenton!

My family is born and raised here in Edenton. I was also born here in Edenton and I love it's history. I'm Edenton's first professional basketball player having competed in Lithuania Europe in the early 00's via Rockingham Community College after playing high school basketball in Durham NC. For me visiting home and it's historic preservations such as the Barker House puts things in place for me. I love history and Edenton is a cornerstone in NC History and I am proud to be from Edenton. The Barker House and it's family history is amazing to say the least and definitely a must see if you visit our town. I've visited the Barker House a couple of times and each time I was blowed away. Great place to visit and take in its history.
