Refusing to let prescriptions be filled because a second opinion is needed, due to pet safety, is negligent and pet owners should go elsewhere.

If you are a pet owner, beware of Lannons Animal Hospital in Elizabeth City. They should not be able to practice.I’ll start with November. I have a 16.5 year old dog, and had at this point been fine with Lannons. Went for her check up, had bloodwork done, all was great, paid the $16 to continue getting Lannons approval to have her thyroid prescription filled by Chewy, all good.Well, in December my dog started to suffer from an ear hematoma. Due to her age (again 16.5 years old), and the fact that Dr Landon had stated two years prior that my dog started to show signs of a slight heart murmur, it wasn’t in my dogs best interest to put her through surgery, and just continue a draining regimen, after all anesthesia could kill her at this age. My dog is comfortable with having it drained, and it’s easier on her.Fast forward to Monday 1/29/24, an appointment was made for draining the ear hematoma again. Show up for said appointment, they take my dog to the back, and then come out with my dog, and state “we’ve decided we are not treating her anymore. You need to have surgery, if you choose not to. it should eventually heal on its own.” I then called to further discuss, and I brought up that Dr. Lannon herself told me she was in beginning stages of heart issues, certainly she wouldn’t want to put her life at risk for this. I then stated I would be getting a second opinion. Then we move to today 1/31/24. I scheduled a chewy order which included my dog’s prescription that I PAID Lannons to approve IN NOVEMBER. I received a phone call several hours after from Lannons stating they were refusing to approve my dogs prescription due to the fact that I stated I was seeking a second opinion about my dog’s ear hematoma. This was truly unethical! I honestly couldn’t believe what I was hearing. They held my dog’s health and well being captive over an extremely petty thing. This has nothing to do with money, I’d mortgage my house for my dog’s health. I can’t even at this point figure out how this is even legal. Can you imagine your primary care doctor refusing to fill you blood pressure meds, because you wanted to get a second opinion about a knee pain she said was only solvable with a surgery?

Unethical treatment of your fur loved ones. Beware of where you’re taking them. DO NOT recommend

They refused to help drain my dogs ear after we made an appointment to do so. It was shameful to turn away an animal who needed care.

You have proven to me that your entire staff loves my Jordyn as much as we do! That says a lot about the integrity of your practice. We are very happy with the care she has received during this crisis situation and know that the rest of our pets will also receive the best care possible. That makes my heart full!

This is a great place to have your fur babies come to for vet care.

I've been taking my dog here for 3 years, since day one that I've had him. The last year has been an absolute nightmare! I do understand the hiring crisis all small business owners are dealing with, but now I've seen other offices are so much better.I've been trying for months to get an appointment for my dog's heartworm testing and vaccines, with no answer or response to my voicemails. This day, my dog is sick bloody stools, coughing, not feeling well, etc. I called, obviously no answer, so I drove there. The "gate keeper" or receptionist is just looking at her computer while the phone is ringing as I walk in, and rang the entire time i was standing there with no one flinching to answer it. I tell her the problem and ask if they do emergency appointments, or if someone can look at him. She says, "so sorry, but we ummm we don't umm do that... I can make an appointment for uhh the middle of September." This was on August 23rd.The customer service is absolutely dreadful and the care for their animals is very limited! Will never come back or recommend them!

Excellent service, and a kind compassionate staff. As a first time pet owner, they answered all my questions, gave me a folder full of literature about my Yorkie Poo and helped me feel like I could be a successful pet owner.

You can never get ahold of anyone. I know they say their voicemail says they won't answer if they're assisting customers.. I've stood in the office as the phone rings NONE STOP like someone is calling back to back to back while 1 is on the computer and one is helping me ( I was in there for 10-15 min) no one answered that phone and before you ask no it was not busy. I have needed them to answer asap because I was running late but NO ONE will answer doesn't matter is you call 1 time or 10000 times. I've left 3 different voicemails for different things on different days and no call was ever returned (yes I left my name, the pets name, my number, and the reason for calling). The only way for me to get anything done here is for me to psycho dial a few times every few days and I MIGHT get lucky. They have been a BIG help in the past when there was another doctor but now that there is only 1 it's like everyone doesn't care as much and no one is motivated to do much anymore ( minus the 1 doctor they're doing their best)I had lannons as my primary vet but I've had to switch. I was fine with the waiting for appointments (unless urgent) but you can't even get someone to answer to make an appointmentThe only good thing about this place is they have an AMAZING doctor I have no complaint towards them they're great I've never had an issue with their service and my pets are healthy thanks to them the doctor is honestly the only reason for the 2 stars if the doctor wasn't good I would've left 0. it's the other staff that ruins the place's experience. Yes they're nice but that doesn't cut it

I’ve been bringing my pets to Dr Lannon for over 10 years. She cares about your pets and wants the best for them.

I had just gotten a new puppy and I didn’t have my house as puppy proofed as I needed to have and my puppy ate some mouse poison, we rushed to the closest vet to us which happened to be Lannon’s, we ran inside for help and they wouldn’t help us, they said that they weren’t seeing any animals that weren’t already patients, they wouldn’t help us at all! Our puppy was dying and we were crying, and they did nothing.Thankfully he often got car sick so we drove super crazy and he puked.I will never go there again and I tell everyone that asks about vets in the area.

Very good staff and very cheap for the area...unfortunately they do not have many vets on staff, so they are booked out for months on appointments of any type. They will take your pet for shots within a couple days although.
