“I started volunteering here about a month ago. The people are amazing and the dogs are just as you would expect. Half of them are hesitant to meet new people which is understandable. But once you get to know them it is amazing to see their true personality. There is one dog in particular I have been working with every morning. She was so timid didn't want to come to me at all. But after almost 3 weeks she came up to me out of the blue and laid in my lap. I almost cried seeing the dog that wouldn't even let me open her kennel without crouching down and tucking her tail to her running and playing and rolling over for a belly rub. As for the owners. They are amazing and love the dogs they have. Max has dementia which causes him to concern others with how he speaks but he means no harm. Della is the sweetest old lady you will ever meet. They take care of the dogs the best they can. They do for the dogs whatever they may need. The volunteers are so kind. They welcomed me and I get a thank you for coming and helping at least 4 or 5 times a week. If you are looking to adopt a pet it would be the best of interest to keep in mind some of these dogs have suffered trauma. Some may act a certain way in the kennel and completely different when outside of it. There are a few dogs that act aggressive in the kennel which can make people nervous but as soon as you get them out of the kennel they are amazingly different. Every dog has a different personality. A lot of them you have to see in person to see their true self. Don't go based on just a picture. Last thing. Whoever said that Max asked for money to take in dogs is a complete lie. We have taken in over 10 dogs in just the past month I have been there and all they ask for is complete honesty of why you are surrendering the dog. Don't believe all the reviews you read. They really do try their best to keep this place up and running and they do everything in their power to keep the dogs safe and give them everything they need.”
