We are buying a home in Emerald Isle, NC and experimenting with finding favorite restaurants. Well Kathryn's turn out to be a place we will return to many times in the future. Service was friendly and the decor pleasant. Their martini menu is extensive and they have many of our favorite wines on the menu, too. The food was excellent and plentiful! The goat cheese appetizer was spectacular. There was not room for dessert but next time I will order lighter, maybe appetizer and soup or salad , so I can try a dessert. No reservations, a disappointment, but we will just have to go early or late to avoid the crowded dinner time. Love this new place!

Our favorite for date night. Consistently high quality food and the BEST martinis. Being locals we have tried all the shrimp and grits and we no one comes to their twist with the shrimp and grit cake. Key lime martini is GOAT.

We had a wonderful experience. Service was timely and attentive. We arrived on a Thursday at 5:30, with plenty seating available. 30 minutes later the restaurant was packed. We really enjoyed most all the dishes we ordered, but couldn't finish the salad. Despite asking for light dressing, the salad was drenched and couldn't finish it. Yes the decor and ambiance can feel a bit outdated; we didn't mind. We felt welcomed, tended to and full. I wouldn't categorize this restaurant as fine dining, but worth another visit because we had such a great experience. I enjoyed the grouper special stuffed with crab. I agree with other reviews about the rice, flavorful but mushy consistency. I didn't understand the melted mozzarella on the steak. Fresh warm bread was yummy and complimentary.

Very outdated 90s style inside the dining area (Rainforest Cafe meets grandma's house). The food was nothing special and for the price, was very disappointing. The escargot was chewy, overcooked and missing any flavor.

I came here for dinner and we ordered a salmon a steak and a martini. To preface this review I am both a bartender and manager at a restaurant and my partner is a server. I got the pomegranate martini and it tasted purely like triple sec for the price of $15. We got a salmon for $30 that I asked for cooked medium and it came out dry and well done ( honestly most places can’t get this right so I wasn’t super upset). The real issue was the ribeye we ordered for $54 cooked medium-rare. The steak came out virtually raw. I am not one to send a meal back by any means but this steak was almost inedible. I sent it back and when it came out the second time there was barely a difference (the center was completely mushy). I felt really bad for the server but had to send it back again. I asked for her to just have it cooked med-well to well done and funnily enough when it came out the third time with a cool red center it was pretty much medium rare. For such a high price I would’ve expected a much better experience all around.

Great place to eat. The hostess was amazing. I am vegan and she prepared the kitchen before I arrived. When I got there, I was able to order a meal without a hassle and it was delicious, albeit expensive (they charged me $10 extra for the pasta in the meal). The server was good and also helped to ensure that my order was perfect. This place was very accommodating. If you go, enjoy!

My wife and I do not mind paying for a well presented and good tasting meal, but the food here is neither. We were disappointed in the food. She had a steak, asked for it to be well done and it was medium….not a huge issue, but it was a very poor quality steak…the steak was mostly bone, fat and gristle . My grits with shrimp had bacon….the cook dumped the bacon on top with all of the bacon grease….it was not a sauce. Also, we could not help but notice that the wait staff aprons were all filthy.

Food choice of grouper with crab meat was not the best. Sauce served on top overpowered any taste of fish. Key lime pie martini and service was excellent!

This place had a terrible 90’s generic wine list. It’s not a martini just because it is served shaken in a martini glass. Dinner was lukewarm with no flavor. My husband’s fish was overcooked with a sloppy crab sauce. Service was on time but our server was rough. She had a mouth full of food when she came to check on us and said “I just shoved a piece of bread into my mouth.”The woman host was great bit everything else sucked. This place is an outdated joke.

Four couples on vacation in Emerald Isle decided to go out for dinner knowing that seating for 8 could be difficult. Especially without reservations! From the moment we walked in the hostess was incredibly accommodating and our server, Stephanie, the best. She even took a group picture for us! Our drinks were served quickly and were not house pours. A very professional bartender! Our meals, from appetizers (the oyster decadence to the ahi tuna) were delicious. Our choices for meals ranged from chicken, tuna, shrimp and grits, to grouper and everybody was pleased with their selections. We weren't rushed and easily took almost 2 hours at our table. While we did not order any deserts, Stephanie was kind enough to go through the offerings and they sounded delicious. Maybe another time! All in all, Katherine's was a great dining experience for our group and we will be back.

My husband and I decided at the last minutes to try Kathryn's. We'd driven by the place for years. A friend told us it was good. I had the pork, my husband had the salmon; both were average and uninspiring. The prices were exhorbitant, a surprise given the atmosphere, decor, and furnishings. The place has no baffles on the walls, too many tables, and is so loud that we had to lean into the table to hear each other speak. Our server was knowledgable, helpful .... and harried. We will not return; rather, we'll make the time and drive to Beaufort where the food is excellent and the prices reasonable. (City Kitchen, Beaufort Grocery, 43 Degrees North ...)
