“Stopped in for a little outing with my 13 yr old daughter who loves beading. We weren’t really sure what to expect- maybe she would get a few cool beads, maybe we’d just browse. What I didn’t realize was that you can make jewelry while you’re there! We stayed for about an hour picking out beautiful beads and charms. You pay for every component to make your piece and Sheila helps to bring it all together. What a cool experience! It’s a quaint shop and so very peaceful. We had a lovely time and great conversation with Sheila who is very sweet and gentle. The shop also has some beautiful, natural, hand painted pieces. Sheila is quite the artist. It was a great experience for some mother/daughter time. Highly recommend!”

“Family Jewels is one of the true “gems” of Hatteras Island. I have purchased my favorite pieces of jewelry there over the years, including necklaces, bracelets, and earings hand-made by the owner. Many are composed of beads fabricated, designed, and painted by her. I have received many, many compliments over time on the beauty of these pieces.Recently my favorite necklace from Family Jewels broke (after 7 years of repeated wearing!!!), and I brought it in to the store so I could pay the owner to repair it. She restrung the beads and when I picked up the repaired necklace I found it to be even prettier now than it was when I bought it. She refused to charge me a penny, since she had made the item and I had purchased it from her.What a wonderful service! “I went by shop to see if they would be able to turn a sharks tooth I found into a necklace. The owner, Crystal, was so amazing! She wrapped the tooth into a pendant while I waited. She was super fun to talk to, and the pendant turned out beautiful! She even found a cord to put the pendant on so I could wear it ASAP. Definitely a 10/10 experience and I will be a returning customer :)”
