Pep Boys-Clayton, NC off of Business Hwy 70 My car battery died on the evening of March 1st. I had USAA get my car towed to Pep Bous location on business hwy 70 in Clayton, NC. The car was dropped off at the location at 6:55pm. I arrived with my car and went inside to check it in. I spoke with DeMarcus about how I simply needed a new battery (because I had just gotten my 100k car work done, with oil, rotation, alignment, etc on February 16th so I knew that was the only thing it could be) because the battery had looked like it exploded. He refused to change out the battery without doing a diagnostic test because it was "mandatory". After some back and forth, I said I just need a new battery and he still wouldn't do it without a diagnostic. With options limited I said whatever. At the at point, we left and not even 14 minutes later I get a call saying the diagnostic was complete. We all know that diagnostics don't take 5 minutes as my family owns several auto shops in MN. So that was a huge red flag, among him following up with that charge and the charge for a new battery is $200 for a 2014 Rav 4. I kindly declined and said I'd be in the next morning. I was there when it opened and spoke with the owner Cesar. I started by asking what we owed and the diagnostic was on it. So I showed him the time stamped text from when we dropped it off to the time stamped call from DeMarcus stating the diagnostic was "complete". Time difference of 14 minutes. Not possible. To add to that, they also sent a report on how I needed new tires, alignment, oil change, etc. how did they run a diagnostic AND hoist the car into the shop to check all of that in such a short time period? They didn't. It isn't possible. Little do they know that had they looked at the sticker on the windshield that states when the oil was last changed and car serviced, they'd have known that not all of that needs to be done. I said that it was extremely wrong that they took advantage of a woman (unfortunately typical in this industry) that clearly stated just needing a new battery. Cesar didn't admit to wrong doing, he just said he'd "pay the technician" that we didn't owe anything, and then he was extremely disrespectful as I exited. To whomever is reading this, please understand the disappointment in this issue and customer service. If you have children in this world then I'm sure you can resonate with the fact that the last thing you want is for them to be taken advantage of and conned into things they don't need only for financial gain of the company and not the betterment of the customer and their situation. This is highly unethical, highly disrespectful, and highly disappointing. I would never recommend this company, this location, or services from Demarcus or Cesar.

Brought my car in for a simple bulb replacement in my headlights. The staff was helpful and cheerful when checking me in for my appointment. While I was waiting for the repairs, our area went under a tornado warning with reports of tornado rotations and touchdown just two miles from the shop. I was the only customer waiting in the shop at the time. The two girls at the counter made sure that not only the employees were aware and in a safe location, but also went above and beyond to ensure my safety too. In the panic of it all, the employees could have easily retreated to the back of the shop to safety but instead made sure to run to the front of the shop to lead me to safety as well. While the tornado missed us at the shop, I am extremely grateful and appreciated for the staff at this location.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Pep Boys, Garner Location for automotive services, and I must say, it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome and a sense of professionalism that immediately put me at ease. The first thing that stood out to me was the friendly and knowledgeable staff. They were not only willing to answer my questions but went above and beyond to explain the services my vehicle needed. This level of transparency was greatly appreciated, as it made me feel confident that I was making the right decisions for my car.Pep Boys' waiting area was clean and comfortable, with complimentary refreshments. It's evident that they value their customers' time and comfort. The real highlight of my experience, however, was the quality of the work performed on my vehicle. The technicians at Pep Boys demonstrated a high level of expertise and attention to detail. I could feel the improvement in my vehicle's performance immediately. In conclusion, I highly recommend Pep Boys for automotive services. Their exceptional customer service, skilled technicians, and commitment to transparency truly set them apart from the competition. I will definitely be returning for all my future automotive needs. Thank you, Pep Boys, for a job well done!

TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN FROM THIS FRAUDULENT ESTABLISHMENT‼️‼️‼️ CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT PENDING‼️Drove my son’s vehicle to the pep boys in Garner NC for a free engine light diagnostic. Checked in the vehicle with Renea Smith (supposedly the “GM”) of this location. (MY EXACT VERBIAGE!) I advised her that the vehicle is running hot and the engine light has come on, “I would like a free diagnostic to determine what the main issue is.” I advised her that I’ve taken several of my Volvo’s’ to Pepboys in Miami (where I live half of the year), for simple oil changes and tire rotations. Renea Smith proceeds to ask “phone number”, she advises that she has located my account. She then advises she needed to “update my account” and proceeds to ask for my address. I’m assuming she’s looking at my Miami home addresses. So I assumed she needs an address for my property here in Cary. I provide it. Then she asks for the keys - asks if I am staying or leaving the car. I advise I would be back for the vehicle once the diagnostic is complete. Renea Smith advises “we’ll call you once it’s ready.’Approximately 30 minutes later I receive a call from Renea Smith (the manager) who advises that the entire engine was blown and would cost $3,500 for labor, not including the cost of the engine. ? On a vehicle that I seamlessly drove from my home to Pepboys?! If that didn’t sound sketchy enough - what I didn’t advise them of, was that my neighbor (who’s a mechanic) had already taken a look at it and gave me a $200 quote on a cracked water pump replacement. I was taking it upon myself to get a second quote before I preceded with the water pump repair.Renea Smith then asked, if I would like them to locate an engine for that vehicle or if I would like to pick it up. I advised her, no thank you - I will be picking it up. She proceeded to say “your invoice would be at the front” and she hung up! ?Once I arrive to retrieve my car and key (Renea Smith has left for the day), and a big fat old man is at the front desk. ? I proceed to provide my information so he could hand over my key and I could leave. He pulls an invoice from the desk with a $$ amount for a coolant check and parts. He advises he would not be releasing my key until I pay for the services preformed. I advised him, there must be a misunderstanding because Ive dropped off my sons vehicle for a free diagnostic check - there shouldn’t be a cost associated with a FREE diagnostic! He then calls Renee to clear up the misunderstanding - when she advises that SHE HAD COMMUNICATED A DOLLAR AMOUNT UPON DROP OFF OF THE VEHICLE?! Renea Smith barely lifted her head up to acknowledge me at check in, NEVER-THE-LESS communicate a cost above and beyond the FREE DIAGNOSTIC I was requesting!I look above the front desk and notice a camera security system, and ask the man at the front desk to please replay the footage where she advised me of “the cost”! He proceeds to say - VERBATIM, “those cameras do not have audio - so you will not catch us that way”! Almost implying, that they’ve fraudulently done this before! What Renea Smith (“the manager”) wasn’t aware of - is that I am a defense attorney for the State of North Carolina & Florida! You have a bigger problem on your hands for fraudulently preying on the finances of clients who are entrusting their personal property to a “reliable”/“integral” establishment for honest quotes and services!I proceeded to advise the man (name unknown) at the front desk, that I will be towing my sons vehicle out of the lot IMMEDIATELY! He then advised, “if I did that, he would call the police”! I laughed and advised him - my GOOD OL’ FRIENDS at the county police department were already ON THEIR WAY to assist the escort of my sons vehicle! The following day, my colleague at my firm was in contact to retrieve paper trail evidence and my sons key! All individuals evolved will be served and summoned to court shortly!THERE WILL be a complete and thorough investigation into this Pep Boys establishment in Garner NC!Sorry to the victims of this fraudulent facility!

I normally come to this location for an oil change and have no issues. Each visit I’m assisted by Logan, who always provides great customer service. Today I interacted with Ruby who was very rude. Ruby's tone of voice and body language when answering my questions came off as if she had an attitude. I’m not too familiar with anything about a car so it was very off putting when I asked simple questions about the service being provided for my car. I did let Ruby know that I didn’t appreciate her tone. After our interaction she continued to be unprofessional as I waited in the waiting area to the point where she excused herself outside. Outside she proceeded to fuss to the mechanics. It made me feel uncomfortable being that they were not done servicing my car. The way she handled the situation was very unprofessional and uncalled for. I ended up receiving a free service due to miscommunication between the mechanic and front desk additional to the oil change I paid for. I’m definitely going to reconsider going back or recommending anyone to go here. My rating is two stars because my previous visits and interaction with Logan were always good.
