Absolutely useless. Slow to respond, by days, to animal attack complaints. And I asked to be ononymous to avoid my aggressive neighbors from retaliating. Neighbors was shown an email I sent to the animal shelter ( a letter following up with them to see if they had a chance to reach the neighbors about their pitfalls being loose). I found this out when in court w neighbors. Unbelievable.

A terrible animal shelter. Their adoption application is formatted so horribly that anyone could get confused trying to fill it out. And they will deny you and neglect to inform you of this as well, I had to go and actively ask them almost 72 hours later (their response time is said to be "48 hours") about an update to which they told me I was denied for an "incomplete" application. They neglected to inform me of what exactly I didn't fill out and not only that, my reason for adoption was for an emotional support animal for PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Their hours are also poorly formatted, it's nearly impossible to contact them. Terrible communication, terrible formatting, terrible response time. It's dispicable and pitiful and they should be ashamed at their lack of professionalism and transparency.

This place is a very friendly shelter! Me and my mom were out looking for a dog to adopt n give a great home ! The workers were extremely friendly and sweet ! We ended up finding our forever fur baby. Miss Linda (Luna ) she is the sweetest dog you could ever imagine she loves to be loved on and cuddle in bed and go for walks! 10/10 would adopt from here again ❤️

Was visiting from out of town and wanted to drop off a dog food donation and give back to my home town. I decided to check out a couple of the pups and I was directed to the outside area to look at 4 dogs. As a previous review has stated, I kind of got the feeling that going to the back to view the animals wasn’t an option, I didn’t push too hard but I later came to that conclusion.I own a pet sitting company in Atlanta, GA and have encounter thousands of dogs over the years. The dogs that were available to view outside did not seem to be the most adoptable. They were not fixed, had very limited social interaction from what I observed and one of the dogs had a skin situation that wasn’t something the staff noted. The water bowls also had brown water in them. I left feeling sad because it seems as though the dogs out back were not of priority and were in no shape to be adopted as they currently were. This place needs to be completely redone or even relocated to a more spacious, adoption friendly space. It’s located in the same lot as the landfill and even the name of the place being “animal control” is horrible marketing if you are truly looking to rehabilitate stray/disadvantaged pets. I am giving them 3 stars because I don’t know the full story of how their budget may be and what limitations they may face that prevent them from being up to a higher standard. All I can say is, there is room for improvement and the pets of Stokes County will ultimately be the ones who suffer from the current setup and processes in place. Hope things change soon.

I called them about possibly adopting a dog and I made an appointment to go look and she had this dog all ready for me which I didn't pick out, I just wanted to look at some animals to possibly adopt. I wanted to see the other dogs and she wouldn't let me go in back to see them and she insisted I had to take the one she had right now and she had all of the dogs stuff packed and ready to go and the paperwork all filled out ready for me to sign. I just wanted to go down there and look at some dogs so it's a no wonder that no one adopts animals from the shelter. Plus the fact that you have to make an appointment to surrender a dog that you can no longer take care of or you found wandering around in the streets is absolutely ridiculous. No wonder there's animals in Stokes County that are on the streets. . Also when I went there that place looked like it needed to be demolished it was so dirty and in such bad condition, it smelt horrendous in there. I didn't even want to sit down because it was so filthy. The way you keep your workplace tells a lot about a person and from the looks of it I can bet that those poor animals get absolutely no attention and are in filth. I mean what were they hiding that I couldn't go back there and look at the other animals. God help those poor little animals that are there. Something needs to be done about this shelter, I don't know who I would call to turn them in or if it would even do any good. If you're going to surrender a dog please take it to Germanton animal shelter.

My neighbors dog is dangerous and has already bitten 2 people. Their dog has come after myself and my children on multiple occasions. I tried talking to the owner, but they refuse to take their pet out on a leash. Animal control will not return my calls. One of my children could be killed by this large aggressive great Dane, and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do as no one will help.

The worst experience - stay away. We were completely approved - my husband waited for three hours for self important Emily to come do the paperwork. She had more important things to do and then told us to come back tomorrow after waiting three hours . A real AMATEUR HOUR!!

This shelter has very friendly people working. You can adopt dogs, cats even a Guinea pig. The reason was there was to pick up my husband's sons dog. She went out to use the bathroom and wandered too far. Someone took her to the animal shelter.

I’ve tried multiple times to get them to come pick up a litter of five puppies and two adult female dogs that are clearly not being taken care of living at an abandoned house And at this point they’re just dodging my calls and one of the puppies has gone missing

Every time I call them about animals in poor living conditions and being mistreated they do absolutely nothing! Isn’t that supposed to be their job? Horrible place! I am so over the lack of caring for animals in this county.

I found a cat, who was hit by a car but was not dead. He was trying to pull his body across the street so other cars wouldn't hit him, but was too badly injured. I stopped traffic and scooped him up in my car. I called local vets and they told me that they would not treat him for various reasons (they closed early, did not have avaliable appointments). I called the Stokes County Animal Shelter. The woman on the phone offered to come get him, but I told her that I was already on the road and would bring the cat to them. The gentleman who was working did an assessment on the cat and said that he had a broken back and possible internal bleeding, so it would be more humane to uthanize being that the cat was in much pain. I'm so grateful for these people who were so kind to me and the injured cat. They were very gentle with the cat and he was shown love in his final hours. ?

I have tried multiple times to get them to pick up a dog, who does have an owner, who obviously isn’t being taken care of and they have blowed me off every time. This dog has already been there once because it was hit by a car so they know who the owners are. They gave me information about one organization that I could contact and when that didn’t pan out they simply stated there was nothing they could do. The last time I called, about a month ago, I told them again what was going on and that this dog was dirty, his hair was matted and he has briars in his fur and all they said was we will have an officer go out. I asked if they wanted my contact info and I was told no. If you are really serious about helping this animal, you would get my contact info to keep in touch if you have additional questions. We have been feeding this dog, we have been keeping him brushed, etc. it just feels like they don’t care as much as they portray that they do. I realize this is a big job for them and they get a lot of animals, but go above and beyond to help someone, give better resources. I’m just so disappointed.
