My husband needed new work boots so we came here since we had came the year before. The ladies that helped us were great! Very patient and friendly with us. My husband tried on multiple pair of boots and decided on a pair that cost $227.00. We bought them on Saturday and then on Monday he put them on to wear to work. He walked out to his truck to crank it and came right back. He noticed the shoes did not feel the same as they did at the store so instantly took them off and asked me to return them. When I took them in there one guy said they had been worn and the manager I think his name was Trent. He said “a worn shoe is a worn shoe” when I explained the situation he was very unwilling to do anything about it, not even exchange for a different size. He even had the nerve to compare a shoe worn for literally a minute or two to a pair of underwear and asked if I would want to buy a pair of “worn” underwear. We have been here a few times but NEVER again. The picture below shows the boot with a little dirt and then I washed it off to show that there is absolutely NO wear on them at all.Beyond not being able to satisfy the customer both guys were extremely rude from the minute I walked into the shoe store. I do not normally write bad reviews but I was beyond frustrated with this situation.

Great customer service. They carry safety shoes, hiking shoes, slip resistant shoes, and regular work boots. They’ve been in Hickory over 20 years. They carry several brands:Red Wing, Timberland Pro, Keen Utility, Wolverines, Justin, Ariat, Reebok, Skechers, Irish Setter, Carolina, Volcom, Bates, Oboe, Vasque, Hoss, Avengers, Nautilus, Florsheim, Rockport, Double H, and Puma Safety shoes. They also have a Aetrex measuring device that shows pressure points and suggest orthotic insoles. These are great if you’re having any foot pain or if you have planters fasciitis. You’ve got to check them out. ?

Super friendly staff who's always willing to help you find the right shoe/boot/insole. As well as giving you tips to keep your boots and feet in good shape. The owner is a really cool guy and their prices are very reasonable!

This is my favorite shoe store in North Carolina for men’s work shoes or any other casual shoes for that matter. My wife has also found casual outdoor shoes she likes. The staff is dedicated to getting the right shoe for your foot. Their selection of sizes is amazing— wide sizes, larger sizes. A great selection of many higher quality brands including Keen assembled in USA steel toe shoes. They also carry Aetrex insoles and their prices are far lower than online. I hadn’t tried Aetrex insoles in years but the salesman guided me to try them again. Now the Aetrex l2200 insoles are in all my shoes and my feet have never felt better. Relative to some reviews complaining about returns, it’s possible many of these people have never owned a small business. Returning a commodity item at a large national chain store isn’t the same as returning a specialty item to a family owned store that provides tons of service. You will never get the service at a large store that you will get at Catawba shoe— the staff, skills, customer focus, and inventory just isn’t there to make sure your purchase is right— those stores have to eat the cost of a return because they provide no service. Take advantage of the service at this store take the time to be sure your shoes are right before buying including understanding warranty etc if needed— the folks at Catawba shoe store have always taken the time with me needed to assure that I have a good fit. It’s time to support small businesses like this— they are the only ones that can supply the service and selection locally. I In the pictures are a few examples of the shoes I have bought here excluding my wife’s shoes. Keen steel toe shoes, Keen work boots, and oboz sandals. All are a perfect fit and have been very comfortable. Prices are fair and competitive especially given the high level of service and selection at the store.

My son went to get him some new work boots and he loves it there. He got a beautiful pair of wolverines and he loves them. 198$ he said they were worth every penny. It was a straight shot from Morganton to the #Catawaba Shoe Store. Very easy to get to.

Went in with intentions of buying a pair of boots. Some guy who I'm assuming was owner or manager wouldn't let me and said I'd just buy them online cheaper. After exchanging words with him I threw the boot at him and told him I would never be back. My brother in law has had 2 of the same experiences. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!!!! If I could give it 0 stars I would!! Take your money to somewhere that knows how to treat customers

Do not buy work boots from here!! My husband bought some Ariat steel toe WorkHog boots from Catawba Shoe Store roughly 5 months ago (we confirmed with the store). The soles are coming apart and have some chunks missing out of them. So we went up there to see what can be done about warranty since he’s only been wearing them for 5 months. They told us “I’m sorry, but that’s normal wear and tear and we can’t warranty them.” She then explained “if they were coming apart it would be a different story, but that looks like normal wear and tear to me.” Okay so wearing boots for 5 months that the soles are literally coming apart is normal wear and tear? Sounds to me they don’t care about customer satisfaction. We showed her where a chunk of the sole was missing off one boot and another piece is about to come off the other boot. She just shook her head and shrugged her shoulders saying there is nothing they can do, it’s normal wear and tear.. They said normal wear and tear so much it was suspicious. Like they knew there is a loophole in the warranty and they just stuck to it. She also tried to blame it on the way my husband walks. His boots have NEVER worn out this way before. They always wear out on the inside not the outside. They had great customer service when we originally bought the boots. They were very helpful, but don’t try and return boots that are falling apart even though you’ve only had them for a couple months because they will NOT help you. They will not give you any kind of store credit, refund, or anything! Save your money and go somewhere else like BootBarn in Concord, Morgan’s in Gastonia, or Cowboy Country Western Wear in Hickory!

My Brother Purchased me a Pair of boots. But for my feet composite or steel toes are not comfortable. I tried one shoe on and I felt the composite rubbing my toe so I took the boots back to Catawba Shoe store with receipt.to be as fair as possible to the store and to be as clear as possible. I tried on one shoe. I however was wearing crocks that day and did not have socks on when i tried on the boot. Apparently my feet had a little grit on them which transferred to the insole that I didn't even realize until I was returning the boots at the store. The boots were out of the box long enough for me to try them one on then I put it back into the box.I went into the store when the store opened today and told them i wished to get a pair of soft toe instead of the composite toe. to which they told me they specials in safety shoes and their soft toe selection was minimal. And told me there we 6 styles over there. (I was the only customer in the store) I proceed to stumble around trying to figure out where over there was until they told me on the back wall. As I am looking at the boots he tells me he cant do a refund because the shoes show signs of wear. I wasn't asking for a refund I just wanted to exchange for a different pair. But this did irritate me that he said they were showing signs of wear as they had only been out of the box to be tried on. He said they showed signs of being worn. And I guess that once you have tried on any shoe that technically does count as being worn! He asked me what wanted to do as I have already used the comfort guarantee and the only thing left was manufacturer warranty. I was a bit irritated at this point. I said " I just wish to get this done and leave as today was my first time in his store and it would be my last as well." to this he replied to me "How about you do me a favor" I said whats that? He said" If you have a warranty issue done come back here." I said if a new pair of boots that was on tried on showed signs of wear I had no expectations of them honoring any warranty on a pair of boots that had actually been worn.Original Shoes Purchased Were Timberline Pro Boos Hoggs $179.95-7% Discount $167.35 before tax ($131.99 at Tractor Supply) ($165 from Timberland)Traded for Timberline Pro Boondocks Soft toe $194.95 -7% discount $181.30 before tax ($143.99 at tractor Supply) ($180 from Timberland)I tried to get him to show me the signs of wear on the shoes and he turned over the shoes I brought back and the ones I exchanged for And said see the difference But I didn't. and he said Look at the insoles And I did see the grit on the insoles. The receipt on the exchange boots does say *Worn Shoes cannot be returned unless a manuf comfort guarantee applies. And then only a exchange no refund!!!!!!I now wish i had taken photos of the Boots But I did not foresee any sort off issues arising over shoes that had only been tried on.

My bf bought shoes from this place a couple of years ago. We were told if they started coming apart to bring them back. Well we did and they said it was our fault not manufacturer error, we accepted that and just bought a replacement pair of boots. Fast forward to this year we bought my bfs brother a pair of boots and the brother wouldn't even take them out of the box when he learned they were composite toe. He then went to return them within the 14 day time frame WITH a reciept and they would only let him trade them for another pair. They said they looked like they had been worn when they hadn't been removed from the box. We will NEVER shop here again. And I will let everyone I know , know how crooked these people are

This place is very helpful selling you a pair of shoes. But… try taking them back and it’s not a pleasant experience. Terrible customer service. After years of buying shoes here they have lost our business.
