So tonight my daughter, grand daughter, great grand daughter and I went into the Hickory Petco to buy fish. For two years my son in law battled a rare cancer, there are mounting medical bills that may never be paid off. This past Sunday he passed away in Hospice. We had to deal with his arrangements. Anyone who has ever gone through this knows how expensive it is. My great grand daughter who is 3 had a simple request, she wanted some fish to go in her fish tank. My grand daughter was waiting by the tank and when no one came I went to ask for assistance. The young lady stepped out from behind the counter to head toward the fish and then asked me what we were going to do with the fish and if we were going to feed them to something. I said no. At that point she informed me that Petco would not sell me the fish. She said that they only sell them to people who are going to feed them to something and not as pets, because they are poor quality. I told her I wouldn't be trying to return any dead fish. I even spoke with the manager on duty who informed me of the same policy and also told me that they never sell a live pet 20 minutes before closing. Mind you I have a turtle and have always bought feeder fish here and yes sometimes right at closing. Since when does a business have a right first of all to not sell someone an item that is for sale? This policy is discriminating against the poor who may not be able to afford to pay for the more expensive fish. So tonight my 3 year old great grand daughter went home unhappy because we couldn't afford to spend a lot on fish and that is all she wanted. Petco broke a little 3 year old's heart tonight.

The staff at this petco is awesome!!! My dog ended up going to the hospital because of his food(which has been recalled) I was in search of a better option for him, Gabriel as well as another lovely lady helped myself and my mother so much. Gabriel not only helped me with the dog food but also shampoo and conditioners for my very sensitive frenchie. I bathed him that night and both her suggestions worked fantastically. The staff is very knowledgeable about not only the products but dog health in general. Thank you guys so much for all your help

This is one of the cleanest pet stores I have been too. The fish tanks are all maintained nicely and the staff are super friendly

I used up the last of the "special" dog food for their dinner instead of saving it for feeding them their medications. Oops. Bad me. So we now need to get more of the "special" instead of waiting for the regular shipment to arrive in three days. Petco is the only big box that sells this specific brand so we detoured slightly out of our way to pop into here. The store is tidy, organized by species (cats, dogs, fish, other small animals) and then the aisles are neatly laid out. A little bit of searching and we found the specific stuff we wanted. 1 star to the 10 year old that was clearly trying to piss off his mother (and everyone else within earshot) by squeak-squeak-squeaking one of the squeezie toys over and over. Yes, the store had exactly what we wanted. But it was a good 50% more expensive than the same purchase online. You're definitely paying for the convenience here. the new manager is rude and petty. we tried to return a dead fish within the rules for a proper return. the fish died. we brought the dead fish in and was told that we abandoned it. it was dead. then refused to sell us another fish and return our money. courprate was rude and not helpful either. then a few months later we come in with our children and the manager calls the cops on us. our children were freaked out and scared! the cops inform us we have been banned bc of a dispute and was already told not to come back. all lies. we were never told we were banned or anything. that is the opposite of how you run a store. this manager will run this store to the ground. none of our family or friends will be going there ever again. and not bc of the ban. because of the evil, lying, petty and rude manager.

What a bad company! I ordered dog food from them that was supposed to be delivered today. I received a text that it had been delivered even though there was no dog food outside my door. This was a $70 order. I spoke to their "manager" who told me my problem was with DoorDash. I told this person I made the deal with "and paid" Petco! She told me she would call the police on my behalf in some egregious attempt at being condescending. I will never shop at this place again - or at DoorDash.

So I bought a chinchilla here a week ago and just this morning he seemed to have what I believe is a seizure. All the vets to take him to were about an hour away. I called Petco and they told me to bring him in and they'll see what they can do. So that's what I did. They asked me what happened and I told them a couple days ago he got diarrhea due to giving him to many treats so I started to give him more Timothy hay and less pellets no treats and it started to clear up within

This is the second time this week I have went in and not gotten help. I went in earlier this week and had over $300 worth of items and the only thing left I had to get was fish. I stood there for 45 minutes and asked for help 5 different times all while being told there was already someone over there but the 3 girls at the cash register couldn’t leave the register? Tonight, we once again went in to get fish and supplies for my reptiles and stood there for over 30 minutes. Som

This store seems to cater to dog owners in particular.... not many items ever available for cats so not sure why it's considered a "pet store". Every trip I've taken to this store to find a product for my cats, they never have it on the shelf or it's out of stock. I only try here first every time because it's closest to my house. I even went to a cashier to see if they could check to see if they have the product in store because I thought maybe I missed it. BIG MISTAKE--cashier acted like it was the end of the world that even opened my mouth. Very rude and inconsiderate. Decided to venture up to PetSmart, which I never do, in hickory and had much better selection and customer service experience. The cashier even tried to have an actually conversation with me (). Won't be stepping foot back in Petco, again..... even when I am able to get a dog!

I bought a bearded dragon from Petco a little while ago and he was acting happy and active for the first month or so (as a baby bearded dragon should.) I always took good care of him, and he was always very loving. After the first month he stopped coming out from his rock, and started eating less and less until he would pretty much not eat all day. He just acted so depressed and he would never want to be let out of his tank anymore. He just wasn't the same animal I had been raising for a month, and was still refusing to eat or interact with anyone. We could tell he was feeling very bad, so we took him to the vet, and that's when we got the news. He had cancer. It was nothing we could control and he's had it since birth. Had I known this, I still would have adopted him, with the intention of making his short life a good one instead of being cooped up in a pet store. At first I did not want to be quick to point any fingers at Petco, but I was talking to some people I know, and they have had similar issues with their pets having sicknesses since birth, but not knowing about it. They all said that they all got their pets from Petco. Needless to say I was infuriated, but still overcome by grief. I didn't have Ike for long, but he was my first pet in a while and I had become attached to him in the short amount of time that I had him. I just wish Petco would have said something about it. I've since moved on but I still think about little Ike from time to time.
