Holy Moly was this place cool! If you are low income they offer an entry fee of $3 if you use social welfare programs. We had an amazing time there’s so many cool things. We enjoyed the sea turtle and a seminar we attended had so much information on how they track sharks and tag them. We learned about all of the conservation efforts that the aquarium is participating in too!

I’ve been to several large aquariums and this one ranks near the top. Close by is Fort Fisher, Kure Beach and Wilmington…all worth a visit and exploration. Enjoy!

Been going since I was a kid and I’ll probably end up bringing my kids to this place. I remember it being much larger when I was younger so it’s always interesting whenever I do visit how much smaller it feels. Nevertheless whether I bring myself or friends they always have a good rotation of exhibits and specimen. Kids will LOVE this place and it sparks imagination. Hope to be back soon.

Lacking variety. Rude and rushed at the touch-pool. The baby sea turtle was paddling it's heart out and definitely needed a larger and more accessible float to rest on. One of the sharks in the large tank appeared to be gnarled and lethargic. Zero education provided by staff, if you want to learn something you must read all wall verbage. I would not return or recommend, unless your small children are excessively bored and it's raining.

We love this aquarium. We have gone many of times. We love it the best when they have all the Christmas trees all out decorated. They have some interactive exhibits/games and have lots of variety. The concession stand is only open during the summer they have a nice playground walking trails and a place to dig for shark teeth as well as a gift shop. Be sure to buy your tickets online beforehand.

Very fun, get your tickets online early though because they will sell out.

Great staff. Great exhibits. These folks really care about the animals and the experience for the guests. North carolina has a lot of really subpar stuff across the board, but their aquariums are always a pleasure.

I was a seasoned volunteer at this aquarium a decade ago and spent countless weekends here helping people navigate the exhibits. I was distraught to arrive and find a likely leftover from COVID 'mandatory reserve a time to enter' policy. Of course, there were no available times to enter any time soon. Why does everything have to be so miserable these days? I love this aquarium but this is just sad. What's the reasoning to keep this type of admission around?

We loved our time. Our toddler loved it and had no issues keeping him entertainedThe otter display is absolutely adorable and we’ve spent a good bit of time thereThe staff and volunteers were really nice and helpful and truly wanted to make sure to teach us things without being boring or pushy.

It was a good day to go. I have a membership that works well for my family so it was nice to just schedule a time and go in. I didn’t like this one as much as I’ve liked Pine Knoll Shores. It didn’t seem as personal and I seemed to always guess what the animals were. Later on through the experience I seen TVs with names of animals. Looking at it from a child’s perspective and for a learning experience it was almost nonexistent. The gift shop didn’t have anything that I seen that was branded as “Fort Fisher” location. It was generic to North Carolina Aquarium. So buying a souvenir wasn’t exactly what I want to do especially if it doesn’t have the name of the place I’m visiting on it. Christmas trees scattered throughout the aquarium was the only thing I feel like was done correctly. I’m happy the animals have a place to be happy, I’m happy the workers have a job. That’s all I can say positive about the experience there.

We visit this aquarium once or twice a year, whenever we’re at Carolina Beach. It’s a really great place to check out for the kids and the adults! The ticket prices are very reasonable compared to other aquariums we’ve been to. Not only is there the aquarium and gift shop (which we also love), but there is a nice playground at the end with snacks and drinks you can order. Then, on the way out, there are some nature trails. At one point, you’re guaranteed to see turtles. We’ll continue to visit the Fort Fisher Aquarium in the future!
