About Doughton Park Campground
Doughton Park Campground is a beautiful, rustic, and peaceful national park campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The park is extensive and beautiful, with amazing views, high grassy meadows with sweeping vistas, rushing streams, and antique Appalachian cabins. It offers great access to trails and unique areas on the parkway, including gentle hikes through forests and meadows. The campground has over 100 tent sites on a first-come, first-served basis, though sites are not that large so choose carefully. Some tent pads are rough or absent. The facilities are rustic. There are very few bathrooms, with just one or two stalls per camping loop; they are described as grim, not too clean, and having no lighting, though they are maintained and can be very clean when not busy. There are no showers. Water spouts are few and far between. The campsite tables are very old and worn. There are no rangers or a campground host, only self check-in with an envelope system accepting cash or credit cards. It is a dog-friendly place. The campground can be nearly empty and wonderfully quiet, especially on weekdays or during Parkway closures, but it also fills up quickly. It remains open and accessible via highway when the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed. Visitors find it a wonderful place to stop and chill in the mountains, recommending it highly and intending to return.

This is a great spot for an overnight while exploring the park. We set up camp then hiked to The Bluffs restraunt for lunch.

Such a nice and welcoming place! Felt at ease spending the night with my dogs. Clean bathroom, well kept sites to pick from.
