This golf course is known for its exceptionally well kept fairways and greens! Beautiful environment and scenery. The staff is the best service I've ever had in all my years visiting other courses. Tough course but highly recommended!

One of the biggest things the coastal North Carolina area has going for it is a fantastic climate; outdoor recreational activities can be enjoyed year-round and the mild winter temperatures are perfect for golf.Renowned golf course architect Tim Cate has created a course that takes the area’s heavily undulating land and winds its way through wetlands, waterfalls, and beach bunkers. Although the course is carved from acres of forest, trees are not that much of a factor. Instead, North Carolina native grasses and wildflowers are often found bordering Cate’s signature feature – waste bunkers that run the entire length of a hole and sometimes serve as the cart path. This can be seen on holes 5, 13, and 16.Cape Fear National is all about golf and with that mindset comes outstanding practice facilities. In addition to a full-length driving range, there are several separate areas where you can work on your short game, sand game, and putting. If you are lucky enough to be invited to the club as a guest or on a discovery tour, I advise getting to the course early and taking advantage of all the club has to offerAs you make your way around the course, you’ll find more than 1,500 feet of bridges, three separate waterfalls, several ponds, and strategically placed rock walls. Over 1.5 million cubic yards of earth were moved to create this golfing masterpiece with water or wetlands coming into play on every hole. The result is a gently rolling golf course that is as aesthetically pleasing to look at as it is challenging to play. What you see is what you get; there are no hidden hazards out here!Whether you’re a low-handicapper or are just new to the game, players of all skill levels will enjoy Cape Fear National. With six sets of tees, the course plays anywhere from 7,130 yards to 4,811 yards. From the Champion Tees, Cape Fear National has a course rating of 74.8 and a slope of 140. I found the Blue Tees (6,208/70.3/131) offered a fair challenge and still allowed me to leave with some dignity intact. Pick the tees that best suit your game and you’re sure to enjoy yourself.Bunkers steal the spotlight on Numbers 12 and 13. The 12th hole is a challenging and picturesque par 4 with beautiful bunkering in the fairway on either side and around the green, both in front and behind. You’ll need to fly your approach shot onto this green or risk hitting out of the sand. Number 13 is one of Cate’s signature holes with a waste bunker that you drive through framing the right side of the fairway and snaking its way up in front of the green. Be wary of the pond on the left side off the tee which you may well find if you’re paying too much attention to that bunker.Cape Fear National is a private golf club where the focus is on you, the member. After all, membership is a choice that often leads to changes in lifestyle. Cape Fear National offers a welcoming atmosphere in a peaceful, serene setting, where you’re certain to meet others that share your interests. As a member, you’ll enjoy a challenging golf course, fun social activities, and memorable dining experiences. There are no tennis courts, swimming pools, or fitness centers, just a world-class golf facility, a well-stocked bar, great food, and good friends. That’s really all a country club needs.Cape Fear National Golf Club was recently purchased by Heritage Golf Group, the fastest-growing golf club owner in the country. Heritage Golf Group currently has 25 public, private, and resort-style golf courses in 9 states that will challenge golfers of all skill sets and abilities.

How can you close a restaurant that serves dinner at 6:00? This is not Florida. We don't eat dinner at 4:00.

One of the best courses in Leland! The grounds are beautiful and it's a challenging course to say the least. Only reason it's not 5 star is bc it can be a little expensive for some of the upkeep issues. Otherwise a great afternoon of golf.

Played golf here for the first time while vacationing in the area. The course was in excellent shape, particularly the greens and tee boxes. The course is beautifully designed. One nice feature is you don't see other golfers besides those playing in front or back of you since the holes are spread out. I played from the blues and the forced carries weren't too bad, with the longest being about 200 yards. You can lose a lot of balls here if you don't hit it straight. There are many water features but unfortunately the water falls weren't turned on when we were there. Not sure why but they have you pick up range balls at the bag drop off area, which I thought was strange since the driving range is a far distance from that area. Seems like they don't want people practicing too much on the range. The practice areas were very nice and large. One of my main gripes for a course this nice is that the carts don't have GPS. I've never been to a course of this caliber that hasn't spent the extra money for this. I'd guess they get many out-of-towners playing, and without a GPS app of some kind, it is easy to not know where to hit the ball. The two staff I interacted with weren't terribly friendly and presented as though they don't like their jobs. I would, however, definitely play here again because of the interesting course design. The homes in the area aren't super close to the course so they don't really impact the aesthetics. The main issue is ongoing construction, so particularly playing during the week could be a bit obnoxious. The area is pretty quiet, however, and you should enjoy your round.

Loved this course. Beautiful scenery. Tee boxes in great shape. Greens absolutely perfect. You will spend some time in the sand, there's plenty. The clubhouse is Beautiful and pro shop has some really nice merchandise. I feel like at 80ish dollars it is priced just right.

A delightful gem with excellent food. I love the Forest's chicken salad and bonus, gluten free bread available! Plus, they give you 2 sandwiches instead of one because the bread is smaller. Most places charge more for gf bread because it's more expensive! Entrees are equally delicious and plentiful. Plus, the staff are wonderful and recently took care of a stray cat--feeding him and offering shelter until someone adopted him. Good people and great food!

If you are an avid golfer this is not the place to go, if you don't mind a 7 hour round and bad management and golf etiquette this is your place.I recently booked this place a week in advance because of the great photos of this course.Three of us tee'd off at noon, five some in front of us because there is no starter, waiting on every hole for two groups to tee off. After playing nine holes that took four hours our golf cart died on the middle of the 10th fairway. After watching four groups play past us and 45 minutes later someone eventually showed up with a replacement cart. At this pace we were in for close to a nine hour round of golf.Donald Ross said it best when asked about rounds of golf longer than four hours " golf should be a pleasure not a penance"After speaking to some staff that work there, they made it very clear that 6-7 hour rounds of golf is the standard for this place. They have six minute tee time gaps, just to give you an idea, Wilmington municipal has 16 minute tee time gaps.We told the staff that we preferred not to finish our round, went back to the clubhouse to speak to Nate the part time assistant golf pro, he was a very nice man, we asked for refund or partial refund and explained we had no desire to come back. He claimed the system was down for a refund but said that Monday they would issue a refund to the card. He wrote a hand written letter stating " due to cart dying and terrible playing conditions we agree to refund 160$ for the round to your card on Monday" just spoke to the manager briefly and the manager is now refusing to honor their agreement. This place is terrible, part of the reason this really upsets me is because the course is absolutely stunning, fairways are like carpet, greens were a little hairy but easy to deal with.Save your money, if I'm paying 80-100$ a round for golf I expect decent management and good pace of play. Go play Wilmington Muni a very well maintained Donald Ross Classic for half of the price.
