The McDowell Chamber of Commerce is a neat and clean welcome center and rest stop. It offers friendly, knowledgeable service and complimentary area maps. The facility has super clean restrooms and grounds, with a great view of the surrounding mountains. It provides a small picnic area, a dog area, and coffee available with a donation. It is the last rest area before heading up into the mountains. The selection of local souvenirs is limited, with a focus on Bigfoot or Lake James items. It also hosts well-organized community events like the annual Bigfoot festival.
