Great place to go fishing or to just take a walk. You can sit down on a bench and look at the shore. It is very relaxing.Edit: The new reviews about a woman at the pier treating people rudely when they tried to re-enter the beach access are concerning… but I cannot say that I had the same experience of being treated rudely by the staff, maybe it was because I did not use the beach access, and went to the pier earlier (last time was in June). Keep those reviews in mind if you are planning to go to the pier to use the beach access. Because of the high amount of similar reviews about rude staff being posted in the past week, I am saddened to say that I will have to remove one star from my review until this matter is resolved. OCP, I went to your fishing pier for many years know and I know that you can do better than this!

Treated very rudely by the lady after we paid our $2 to access the pier (a total of $20 for our group). We had arrived early to Oak Island and needed something to do while we were waiting. There were no signs stating there was no public access to the beach. My friend and I sat on the pier while our teenage kiddos played on the beach. The lady watched as they used the restroom to dress for the beach and never said a word. My daughter came in one time and used the restroom. We were there about an hour and decided to leave. When the kids came to get us from the pier, the lady refused to let them through. She was very rude and told them we needed to leave or they would tow our car. When we didn’t leave immediately she came out to escort us from the pier. She then proceeded to tell us we weren’t allowed there unless we were fishing. I tried to explain that we just misunderstood not being from the area. She basically said she didn’t care and to leave. We were planning to return the next day to let our teenage boys fish but I will NOT be returning. I truly understand not letting us just walk through and carry in sand but I have never had a proprietor of a business treat me in this manner.

My family and I are on vacation and wanted to take in the view from the pier with our dying grandmother. We paid to access the pier and a woman with disgusting customer service began yelling at us all for absolutely no reason. She got in a 13 year olds face and proceeded to yell at her. Also when we tried to leave she stopped us again to belittle us even more. Also she had broccoli stuck in her teeth and that really threw me off. Like how can you work for someone and not keep a professional appearance.

We brought our grandmother with us on this wonderful beach trip. After a long drive we were still unable to access our rental at the time of our arrival. We all wanted to swim, but my grandmother(who was just diagnosed cancer) wanted to watch us from the pier. We, all 10 of us, paid $2 each to access the BEACH and the PIER. We tried to re-enter to check on our grandmother and were accosted by a very mean woman. We tried to apologize but she proceeded to tell us we could not access the beach, even when they had an access to the beach. This was a horrible experience especially for my grandmother. They need better staffing.

If I could give this no stars, I would. Paid $2 to gain access to the pier and the restrooms. Inside the building there is a beach access that we went out with no problem. Tried to come back through and got harassed several times with no explanation but that it wasn’t a public access. Even though it was publicly accessible and no sign saying it wasn’t. She let us onto the pier anyway. Then the lady got snippy with my family and wouldn’t let us come back through, even though we PAID TO DO SO. Then she proceeded to harass my whole entire family once more and let us out through a gate instead of through the building. If this is how this pier works there needs to be a sign of some sort. We will not being giving anymore money to this pier. Absolutely ridiculous.

On the evening of July 13, 2023 the attendant on duty was rather snippy and rude, both at the counter and at closing. We have been going to this pier during family vacations for 30+ years, but won’t let one bad experience keep us from going back.

Great bar, good vibes, at least so I thought; as someone who was meeting people coming up from a town access down the beach, I could've done without the person coming up to me saying that there's no public beach access from the bar. Probably not going back here - how else are you expecting people with small children to get inside from the beach, over the dunes?

Relaxing, but the people fishing look at ypu like you don't belong unless you are toting gear, and then they act like you need a permit to even choose a spot to drop a line.
