Lumber River State Park is a beautiful, peaceful, and very rural nature area. The park offers great trails to hike, though some paths can become overgrown. Visitors will see many beautiful views of the winding Lumber River and North Carolina wetlands. The park provides numerous campsites, which are well-managed and clean, along with well-maintained facilities. Amenities include a picnic shelter capable of handling a large group, lots of smaller picnic areas, picnic tables, and barbeque grills. There is convenient access to water and bathrooms. Activities include fishing, camping, and water activities like kayak tours. The park is quiet, not very crowded, and perfect for a peaceful day outdoors. Visitors should note that parts of the park can be closed due to flooding and strongly recommend bringing bug spray due to mosquitoes. The park rangers are pleasant, polite, and very informative.
