Relaxing layout leads you through the exhibits for a lovely day seeing how life is in the water. I realized afterwards I walked right past the exit to the outdoor area with the Tree-mendous play zone. Take note of the map so you don't miss anything.Reservations required seasonally. It does get busy.

I have been going since I was about 7 years old. One of the best aquariums around, with friendly staff and a great variety of fascinating creatures. Could not sing praises of it enough.
Our mission is to inspire appreciation and conservation of our aquatic environments and animals. The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores originally opened in 1976. It closed at the end of 2003 for a major renovation that tripled its size, and reopened in May 2006. In all, more than 13 million people have visited in the 42 years the Aquarium has championed its mission.
The North Carolina Aquariums Division, under the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, operates the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and also the North Carolina Aquariums at Fort Fisher and on Roanoke Island, and Jennette's Pier.
