IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING BOOKING YOUR WEDDING WITH PILOT MOUNTAIN VINEYARDS, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST! (More detailed review on Facebook). After getting engaged at PMV, my husband and I booked our wedding with them over a year ahead of our big day. We really loved the view and location. In our initial conversations with Kari, she was gracious, kind, and accommodating. She stated the venue was transitioning out of the wine business and into more of a wedding venue. She warned they might not have enough bottles to accommodate our wedding, and if needed they could recommend other wineries. So, we started planning accordingly. We put a deposit down and she shared a Google Sheet, but never shared or had us sign a contract. This should have clued us in. Once we had booked and paid in full, the experience with PMV began to go downhill, accelerating exponentially in the days leading up to the wedding and coming to a crashing, disappointing end on the day of. In an attempt to keep this concise, I am going to hit the high (or low) points. There is far more that I can share if you'd like to contact me, just know a pervasive theme throughout our experience with PMV was that of disrespect and broken/unfulfilled promises.#1: We were told we would have the day before our wedding to set up since our wedding was on a Friday and they were closed to the public on that Thursday. On that Thursday, the ENTIRE time we were setting up, Kari was hovering over everything we were doing and continuously commenting on things (mostly critical). It made the experience negative and stressful when we were hoping to make it a fun time with my family that had come in from out of town to help us. While we were setting up (about 1.5 hrs in), Kari approached my family members and told them that we need to be out within the next hour. This gave us less than half of the time we had been promised to set up for the wedding.#2: During one of our initial conversations, Kari specifically asked if we'd like to use their outdoor fire pits on the patio during the reception, to which we responded with a resounding yes. Our wedding was on 11/3 and we were anticipating it being a bit chilly. Our friends and family are also lovers of sitting around a fire, so we were excited about the added ambience. The night of the wedding, we had several guests enjoying the beautiful view around a fire pit that they had to turn on themselves. Kari rushed over to our guests and turned off the fire while they were all sitting there. She stated, "They didn't pay for propane." This was NEVER mentioned to us. We would have gladly paid for propane. I am mortified that she said that to our guests. Our guests then offered to pay her for the propane and she refused saying, "it's not about the money, I have plenty of money." She proceeded to argue with our guests, being rude, passive aggressive, and completely unprofessional.Ex #3: The unprofessionalism displayed by Kari and Mark was utterly astounding. This was not only experienced by myself and my family, but by also our guests. The next day we had a large gathering of wedding guests, and we were overwhelmed with stories about how rude Mark and Kari were. From how they spoke about the wine and us "refusing to purchase" theirs (Even though this was a prearranged condition due to their plans of transitioning from winery to wedding venue) to accusatory and inappropriate comments about a non-drinker’s sobriety, to barking orders at my father, our DJ, and other family members. We opted for the Chardonnay package because of our proximity to the venue and wanting our own DJ. Kari never missed an opportunity to jab at us for not opting for the more expensive package. I'm still in shock at the level of unwelcome micromanagement and lack of professionalism. I have waited over a month to write this. Aside from enjoying the ceremony/food/dancing and such, the most common thing we keep hearing from our guests was how awful the venue owners were. Pilot Mountain Vineyard and Weddings review.(this review would be MUCH longer but google won't let us!)The venue has a beautiful view, especially at sunset. We worked with Kari and Mark for a little over a year on our wedding, multiple in- person meetings (highly recommended) and a shared google doc for wedding planning, which itself sounded like a good idea.Ultimately we were highly disappointed in the professionalism and unkept promises afforded to us regarding our day. Virtually all of our vendors reported they would not return to this venue due to the lack of professionalism they received from the owners at this venue. My guests are still commenting on how difficult Kari and Mark were to deal with and the way our family were treated will not be soon forgotten. Our pre-wedding planning was saved by our amazing coordinator Jill Gordon (EventsbyCandiceJill), who is worth every penny and more we paid. Kari would “edit” our shared google doc without conversation ahead of time. She kept changing our exit time, the time of ceremony as well as other details without alerting us as to what the change was and why. We highly suggest you check this daily as little details matter. We had multiple "surprises" on our day.A side note to these surprises was that the Airbnb which is offered for your Wedding night stay is their primary residence. This is never actually disclosed. Kari and Mark will be staying in the same home as you and your new Husband/Wife the night of your wedding, in the bedroom right above your bridal suite. You will be sharing your wedding evening with the owners of the venue. Just wanting to make that clear for anyone wanting to book a stay at this establishment. The venue itself would be absolutely spectacular with the right management.Kari was rude to our vendors, our photographer who has 20+ years experience, and a Pulitzer prize nominated stated “Kari was telling me how to do my job.” Our DJ said he would never return there because she was rude to his wife who was running the photo booth (which was amazing, by the way, even though Kari tried to talk us out of one multiple times saying “nobody ever uses them”) We have an entire album from the DJ of our guests enjoying the photo booth. Our coordinator said she was “very disappointed” in how Kari conducted herself on the wedding day. Finally, Kari ruined our final dance. We had opted for a final dance together alone in the reception hall while everyone went outside to prepare for our sparkler send off. Half way through the song, Kari busted into the reception hall and interrupted the last dance to tell us that we had to go... the sparklers were running out. She had no business doing that, there was an ENTIRE box of sparklers leftover which could have been used or she could have waited for us to finish our dance to light them. On that topic, our photographer was trying to get the picture he wanted with people standing and sparklers above us, Kari made our guests move further apart and ruined the shot our photographer has done multiple times over the years. In the final photo there are only 5 or 6 sparklers visible, not the 10,15 or 20 we expected. We were also promised s’mores at the firepit on the patio (per our spreadsheet) and she refused to light the propane because she only had a half a tank. I would expect her to be prepared or at least know a half a tank of propane is good for 1.5-2 hours. We say all of this to inform the next couple. (feel free to contact us!)The view is AMAZING! That's all you're paying for, a view.Do not agree to an all inclusive wedding package with Pilot Mountain Vineyard and Weddings you'll regret it.You need a professional coordinator for your wedding day, a real DJ, not a spotify list, a caterer with experience and cake by a cake artist. If you do not, you will sell yourself short, you will have many more regrets than we did. It’s no surprise there aren’t more wedding reviews on this venue, it makes a difference, the view can only make up so much of the other shortcomings.Pete and Leanne Smart

Amazing location with an amazing view. Great selection of wines, you can pick 4 for a flight and have a tasting of a nice variation of wines with different sweetness levels.

Awesome winery . The staff is so friendly and the view is amazing along with the wine. I’ve been twice and both visits were top tier.

I am visiting to get the feel of the location our daughter has chosen for her wedding venue next year. Kari and Mark are amazingly accommodating. They were open for winery business and were had quite the crowd for such a remote location. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their wine and snacks. We look forward to working with them over the next year.

Loved this place! We went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The tasting room was closed that day for a wedding, so the tasting is done down the hill a bit. The owner served up our tastings and snacks. Mark was such a nice guy. He takes the time to talk to his guests. The views were spectacular and so was the wine. The wine is made using their own vineyard's grapes, not typical in NC. We got some cheese and crackers. The cheese is local and was delicious. I can't wait to go back there soon.

What a hidden gem!! My husband surprised with me a day date visit to the vineyard and it literally took my breath away. The view is remarkably gorgeous and the staff were so friendly. Kari and Mark are amazing hosts. There was a wedding at the vineyard so we weren’t able to do our tasting in the tasting room. They instead set up tables and umbrellas in the vineyards!!! It was perfection! Definitely recommended 10/10!!!

Had a great experience at this vineyard. Staff was very nice and welcoming. Scenery is beautiful and the way they pay attention to small details in decoration makes it an even better experience 10/10 recommend.
