I just had the best and easiest experience while buying a car- and was only because I went through Carmax! I started the process on my own online, which helped ease my anxiety about the sales process (and people), and ended up signing up for a test drive for next day too. Start to finish was 2.5 hours and I walked away with a dream car of mine! Isaac Reed was phenomenal to work with and I hope to always go back to him when I’m in the market again :) He listened to my wants and needs, answered all questions I had, and was open and honest about the products and services offered for my new jeep 😍

A+ to the sales and finance department as well as the web designers making an online purchase amazingly easy. Now, the service department is a different story dropping them one star. The service department employees are all friendly, but we are still waiting on work to be completed properly from our purchase about a month ago. Nothing mechanical, all cosmetic, but frustrating.

Update March 2025. I wanna take a minute to call out Ms. K. Singleton in the business office. We arrived late in the day to sell our vehicle. Someone else had taken our paperwork as she finished another client, so she offered to complete the final paperwork with us. Ms. K. Singleton is so professional, pleasant, friendly and FOCUSED! She works accurately and quickly. It was late, we were tired, but Ms. K. Singleton ended our evening on a high note. Sidenote - after, I called to request a copy of paperwork, Ms. A. Ryan was super helpful and responded very quickly with exactly what I needed! Thank you both!!! Lastly, based on my experience having sold 3 cars now, CarMax offered me a better deal every time, better than Carvana, Car Gurus and Auction Direct.

I was extremely impressed with my first visit to CarMax while trying to sell my car. I received a favorable offer within 30 minutes of my arrival (one person in front of me). I chose to sell my vehicle to CarMax and was out with a check about 30 minutes later. The whole process was organized and well managed. Will sell all my vehicles this way - super easy!

Terry was wonderful, I had my list of features that I wanted and we discussed, added the filters to the computer. The computer showed the cars on the lot that had features. I looked at 4 cars made a decision and bought the car. A very smooth process.

I went to CarMax in Raleigh to get an estimate for my vehicle. I was greeted by a friendly female staff member who took my information and asked me to take a seat and someone would be with me shortly. I didn't realize I could have made an appointment so I figured I'd wait for a while. I don't think I waited for 2 minutes when a gentleman called my name, took my car keys and asked me to wait in the lounge. I think it took only 30 minutes for him to return and hand me the estimate! Every single staff member I encountered smiled at me and said hello. Amazing Customer Service!!! Thank you for treating me so well!

I’m only giving two stars because one the of the techs did the courtesy of washing my car and topping of my gas. However I am beyond appalled at how I was treated after leaving the service department. For starters, I went to have my car serviced for a tire rotation days and to inspect a sound I was hearing on the right side of my vehicle. That particular auto shop estimated a $2800 bill to fix my struts/ suspension system due to wear and tear😤I was confused as to how that would be the problem when I just purchased my car from CarMax 8months prior with absolutely no knowledge/report of this. So I immediately called CarMax service department for a second evaluation. I got an appointment that Friday. Friday comes, I dropped my car off around 0830 in the morning. I received a call at 1323 from CarMax, stating it was a piece damaged in the underbody panel due to some impact, which caused a loose piece to make contact with the vehicle. The problem was resolved and I can come pick up my vehicle. After receiving the paperwork, I clarified with the advisor there was nothing wrong with my struts/suspension he states no. At that point, I’m in relief. As I’m waiting for my car the tech offered to wash my car and top off my gas. In which I was very grateful. I finally received my car, and noticed my tire pressure light was on, I was a little confused but still drove off as I had to pick my kids up from school. My steering wheel felt tight, which was also unusual. 5mins down the road, in the middle of the highway my tire blows. I immediately called CarMax letting them know the situation. The associate I spoke with responded with no care or concern and when I asked if I could speak with someone who could help and tell me what happened he states I can have my car towed back to them using the number he provided and it would be free of charge. I agreed and made those arrangements. I was given an estimate of 1hr until arrival so I proceeded with my insurance company for a tow, they were able to get someone within 30min. I went with the shortest arrival time. Fast forward I had the tow truck driver dropped my vehicle to CarMax. I informed the tow truck driver that Matt was the associate I spoke with and he will be able to assist when he got there. Fast forward 30min I’m arriving to pick my kids up late as hell from school, to only receive a call from Matt at CarMax stating they’re not going to be able to look at my car today because they close at 4, he states maybe early next week they’ll be able to look at it. I asked why didn’t he mention that before😤my frustration was through the roof at this point. He told me he would leave my key in the business office for safety reasons. I made some arrangements to have roadside place my spare tire on because CarMax couldn’t do the courtesy of placing the spare on for me. As I arrived I noticed the office hours say open till 6. I walked in the service department only to see mostly all staff still there. I voiced out loud, I was told they called at 6, and just asked for my key because honestly I was ready to go off. Another associate tried to justify what Matt had told me in regard to the office hours, however Matt lied and didn’t give a fuck about the inconvenience and the amount of frustration this has caused.
My spare was placed, I drove to the nearest tire shop, I asked about what could have caused this they immediately tell me I was driving on it while the tire pressure was low. I stated it wasn’t until I left CarMax where my tire pressure light was on. They remove the cap from my tire and found that the stem was broken on my valve. 🤦🏽♀️which all took place in CarMax care. So yea 🖕🏽yall for making my day a living hell. It would have only taken less than 30mins for them to resolve the issue.

I went on the Carmax website and entered the details of my truck. I received an instant online offer that I was happy with. I set an appointment for the next day and took my truck in for an official appraisal. The appraisal exactly matched my online offer and I completed the sale. Carmax was very professional and efficient in the process and I’m a very happy customer. They even ordered me and paid for a Lyft! Great experience!
