What a cool place! They have a great selection of craft beers, the staff are super friendly, and the space is so unique and interesting. My only complaint is that they didn’t have the T shirt I wanted in my size. Oh well, too popular I guess!

This place is too cool! Located right inside of Raleigh’s Alamo Drafthouse, Video Vortex is the place you can go to rent DVD’s, VHS tapes and even VCR’s. They have over 70,000 titles to choose from and you get to sort through the choices just like the classic video rental stores you used to go to. They offer Trivia Night and other events here during different nights of the week. I believe if you rent 2 movies it’s free for one week, but you have the option to rent more or extend your rental with a fee. I can’t wait to come back for more movies!

Life changing business, tens of thousands of free DVD, Blu Ray & VHS selections for FREE. It's all done as an excuse for you to stay and drink micro brews, play free trivia, play free board games, eat their food & of course stay and watch a movie in their theater. The good will expressed here of offering a free retro rental experience is a brilliant and appreciated gimmick that transforms the space into a special community space, an enriching experience that quickly makes Raleigh a better place & your life more fulfilled. If I had one ask it would be they would keep adding DVDs to some degree, as most of their titles stop around 2018... but I understand that the format of physical media is becoming obsolete (which is the very reason they can offer these free) & spending money on new ones may not make sense. It's a small caveat to my absolute love of this idea, though. It's deserving of so much praise.

Great Movie house! Can order food and drinks online prior to the movie and it is served when you are seated. Seats are clean and comfortable. Wait staff wears masks and the food is great.

Really dope concept. I love the fact that you can rent movies for free. You can rent 2 at a time and keep them for a week at no charge. However, you are charged a fee if you want to rent more than 2 at a time or if you keep them longer than a week. They also rent out VHS and other video viewing equipment. There is a little stand where you first need to sign up for an account. After that, you go to check out your movies. A credit/debit card will need to be given so they have one on file for you. Customer service here was great. Very friendly and patiently answered all the questions I had.

Awesome selection of older and not so older videos to rent totally free. Huge collection of DVDs including TV shows as well as movies. VHS collection as well. Includes lots of horror, Sci Fi, wrestling, comedy, and cult favorites. Friendly and helpful staff who love movies. You can get 2 movies at a time for up to a week for free. Plus, great food, drinks, and in theater movies at Alamo.

We didn't go to see a movie because we wanted to browse and buy films. Extremely limited selection. They only had criterion collection blu rays and very few of them. They had a lot of video rentals, but browsing means flipping through thousands of plastic cards with images that are stacked in drawers. It is not convenient at all to browse. Put the movies on shelves like in the 80's. Who has that kind of patience to flip cards? There is a nice collection of video tapes though. They basically use cinema and movies as a motif for their restaurant. We are avid movie buffs, but this was a very veneer experience.

The Alamo Drafthouse's bar-slash-video rental store is one of the coolest spots in Raleigh. A fantastic selection of mostly-local beer on tap is flanked by one of the best cult VHS collections in the country and an impressive selection of Blu-rays -- all free to rent.

Incredible gem boasting what I can only imagine are thousands of videos that you can rent for FREE! (Two out at a time, you provide credit card info in case of late charges and/or damage). It’s a nostalgic and fun experience selecting movies and they are organized extremely well by multiple categories. If you want to check if a movie is available, there are 2 iPads mounted in the area to easily search (the staff is also extremely helpful and friendly). They even have convenient drop off bins for after hours or if the main desk is too hectic. Such a cool way to relive the days of video rental stores, and I love that they have rescued all of these discs/tapes from now-defunct rental stores instead of sending them to a landfill.

What a fun, retro, and interesting place to go to see a movie! Not only do you have the experience of being thrown back to your childhood in the lobby with all of the VHS tapes; the theater is cool too! They serve you in your seats! No concessions to assault you in the lobby with the scrumptious smell of popcorn. You order, and your server brings it to you in your seat, at which you have your own little tray to rest your goodies on. They use dishes and glasses just like at home! Thank you for cutting waste and serving up a tremendous theater experience.
