We took our Westie here after she had a serious heart episode, complicated by pulmonary fibrosis. We were charged $600 for xrays that our REAL vet had to order again the next day. Our real complaint is against DR. (used loosely!) STRALEY whose diagnosis was, with head in her hands, "well she is complicated"! That is it. Expensive tests. Not diagnosis or treatment. Out dog's lack of treatment (put on O2 and lasix the next day) surely hastened her death. Caveat emptor! Save your money and go to a real vet.

Sadie has been with our family for 12 years. Our daughters were 9 and 6 when we rescued her. She has been a constant presence in our lives. She has endured tears of sadness and of joy dripped upon her fur. She has been witness to family drama, both good and bad, and has always been the one we each talk to privately to air our feelings. She is a great listener and her wise golden eyes always let us know she understands, but doesn't judge. She saw both of the girls go through middle school and high school, and kept every secret ever told. She helped my husband and I stay somewhat sane for all of the tumultuous years. And she is the VERY BEST judge of friends and boyfriends. If ya don't pass the Sadie test, ya gotta go! Today, our Love's time came, and we had to make the decision to euthanize. My husband and oldest daughter had taken here to RVH as it was about the only place available on a Saturday. Masks were a requirement. No big deal. But when the time came, and all 4 of us were waiting to say goodbye to our constant, loving, best friend and family member, we couldn't all be with her. Only 2 people were allowed at a time. So AFTER spending 15 minutes getting the bill squared away ( internet was down, and I don't fault anyone for that; we had major storms coming through) our daughters could say their goodbyes, and then my husband and I could be there when she passed. The BIG problem that I have is this... we are all card carrying (fu)lly vaccinated citizens ( yes, I did mean for the F U to be emphasized) who are losing our best friend.! There is no longer a mask mandate, and even though we were accepting of their mask policy, it is absolutely ridiculous that we could not all be in the room with our friend for euthanasia. And when we got to the exam room, she was sedated, laying on a cold table, all alone. She had been that way for over an hour! How would anyone consider that to be humane or compassionate? I found it absolutely sickening! What kind of person who apparently loved animals so much at some point in time, that they wanted to dedicate their life to helping them, would allow someone's beloved friend to be left lying alone, cold, confused, and scared without the loving touch and reassurance from their family? The doctor was only in the room for 2 minutes! If she is that paranoid, why doesn't she just dawn a hazmat suit for the two minutes she has to be in the room? But for the love of all things sacred, let Sadie's family be there for her!! And for us, for that matter! Euthanasia is hard enough, and a year ago I might have understood. But when we can sit side-by-side on an airplane, but NOT all be in a room together to say goodbye to our best friend, something is VERY wrong. The day was awful. This place made it that much worse.

This is long winded, beware-though I hope you'll find it justified. I want to thank Dr. Shinew and staff for saving my little trouble maker's life! His name is Safari. He and his siblings were rescued from the side of an extremely busy highway in Virginia where they had been dumped by the worst of our own species. Their mother was killed but the kittens survived. My husband and I only wanted one kitty since we had already rescued three ferrets and believe me when I say they are a handful! But the individual who found them stranded told me that our little fella was incredibly attached to one of his sisters, and I just didn't have the heart to separate them. Safari is such a fun cat, he walks on a leash and gets into everything-he even plays fetch! Fast forward about three years. I came back to Reidsville in order to help my father who had open heart surgery. It turned out that his health wasn't what anybody expected, and our dad died on October 24th, 2019. I stayed in Reidsville because our grandma (his mom) broke her hip the next day when a rack fell on her at Belk's while she was buying an outfit for the funeral, so I stayed in Reidsville to assist her post emergency surgery. Fast forward to Christmas Eve. Safari had a string coming out of his rear end and when I pulled, it barely budged (please don't do what I did) so I pulled harder. I didn't realize he had swallowed a needle and thread in my absence-cats can just about get into anything because where he found it was a table that had a shelving unit-so he had to get his paw in between the two spaces and he managed to do so. When we brought him in, and found out what actually happened, the synopsis/diagnosis was grim. There was concern that it punctured his liver. Dr. Shinew saved my baby!!!!! I can't thank her enough. Safari is still getting into everything, but I have the opportunity to love him and try to keep him away from danger to live another day because of her. Dr. Shinew, we are so grateful! You truly are making a positive impact in this world for species that deserve the best treatment.

I love Reidsville Veterinary Hospital. I have a four legged child that has a disc issue in his neck that cannot be operated on so we have to be careful with him around my two larger four legged kids so we doggie daycare him at RVH about five days a week. They are AWESOME. Everyone there treats him like part of the family. Could not ask for a better Vet!!!
