First time home-buyer here in my late 20s. With this housing market today and living on a middle class salary alone, it is VERY difficult to purchase a house. However, Clayton Homes of Shelby made it possible and fairly smooth for me. My sales rep, Daniel, was extremely helpful, kind, and patient. If I ever had any questions (and I had a lot, haha), he was always there to answer them! There were minor bumps in the road along the way as with everyone’s first time buying a home — but Daniel helped me get over each of those challenges, even when they didn’t involve him directly! He is super knowledgeable of his career and keeps his promises. Thank you Daniel for helping me obtain my first home in such challenging times. You gave me something to look forward to in life, and I really needed that.

If you are in the market for a home come see Eddie.Eddie went above and beyond the scope of his job to get our family the home we wanted. He followed through on every promise he made to us ,and even helped in areas that weren’t in the planI ask for a lot in our new home and Eddie tried to keep us happy every step of the way and kept us up to date on what was going on at all times. Clayton has been great to work with and have made sure anything that wasn’t correct is being made right. I would recommend this business to anyone that is in the market of a quality home at a great price

Signed a sales agreement with one price, then the bank sent the information for the loan and the sales agreement the bank had was not what we signed, however, it had our EXACT signatures and it was over $20,000 more. The dealership/Daniel went radio silent. Then it was a blame game between the bank and the dealership. Sent a formal letter canceling the sales agreement. Was told our refund had been submitted and we should have by the end of the following week. Week later, no check. Another email asking where and when the check was mailed. Yet another email and now being told the check would be at the dealership next week. We asked where the check was mailed 3 different times, with no answer. We feel that the dealership/Daniel has been less than honest from the beginning. Buyers beware.

Staff seemed rushed and in a hurry. Gave us a map and key to explore on our own. Didn't feel like I was the most important thing on their mind. Houses looked great, but lot looked more like a used car lot.

Clayton Homes in Shelby, NC needsto take a course on communicatingwith customers correctly. Ournightmare began in Feb 2022. Wedecided to work with Clayton forour forever home. We didn't haveland but they said they could helpwith that. The consultant gave usan outdated sheet with availablelots for sale. We finally found onethat was in the area we werecomfortable with. That should havebeen a red flag because they builthomes around the lot. We finallygot in touch with the guy that wasselling the land. He said the landwas selling for $30,000 for 0.60acres. The gravel driveway, septictank, water line, and rough gradingwere included in the price. Wethought this was a good idea. Theconsultant was saying the wholetime we were paying $1200 for thedeposit for the home and land thatthis was refundable. After we paidthe money and picked the colorsfor our home. We didn't get muchcommunication after that. Wealways had to call Clayton or callthe center in Tennessee to seewhat was going on. Our consultantwas always too busy talking withus. I was able to talk with someonethat explained that the landappraisal came in under what heasked for. The appraisal price was$24,000, not the $30,000. Theowner of the land requestedanother appraisal. Which was thesame amount $24,000. 1 finally gotthe answer to why the appraisalwas coming back low. The graveldriveway, water line, and septictank were not complete at the timeof appraisal so they couldn'tinclude them. After being explainedthis information, it made sense whythe appraisal was lower. We alsowere informed that we were beingcharged twice for the septicsystem. The man had in his offerand Clayton also had it in ourpackage deal. Then after that, wefound out we had to close on May19th before we would have to doanother credit report and theinterest rate was going up. Wewere nowhere near closing. Wethought long and hard before wesaid wanted to back out of thedeal. I called Tennesse the nextmorning to explain we didn't feelright about the deal and that wewanted to stop the process. Thenmy boyfriend went to Clayton tosee about the refund. Therepresentative at Clayton wastrying to find a way for us to stayHe said we were pretty muchinvested already and just stay withthe process. We said no, He then toprocessed to stay we didn't haveany money left from the depositand we were like okay. We basicallywashed our hands and moved onwith our day. Later that day theClayton representative texted usand said can we meet with himlater that evening. Now he has allthe time in the world for us. Wefinally called and talked with himThe owner of the land agreed todrop the price. If it was that easyhe should have dropped it beforewe stopped the process. We stillsaid no. Then he told us that ourhome would be complete by July. This was the first time hearing this. Then that leads me to tell him thatthe communication is terrible. Hesaid he couldn't speak to everycustomer all the time. When youare taking our money you need tocommunicate. After all, is said anddone. The doublewide, set-up, andland were going to be $208,000. Inthe end, we would be paying$480,000. We just decided to get astick-built home for that price. Weended up getting a refund of$60.00. READ THE REVIEWS

The price was great, they were able to find land.. that is where it ends..Do not believe any time lines they give you, and do not sign for keys or anything.Communication is not there. At all. Everything I have found out, I had to initiate contact.I am still not in my house. I am waiting on an inspection, and they can not tell me even if the inspection is scheduled.

Made promises that weren't kept. Service, scheduling department never returns calls. Was lied to about things that if I hadn't found out the truth would have affected my warranty, like we were told our warranties on appliances had been registered already and set up for us, that was a lie. Notes were made by sales rep at time of final walk through and we were told everything would be taken care of but was not!
