“My boyfriend and I had a 2 week stay in Black Mountain, NC and Gem Mining was on my list of must-do's. I loved that this place was Veteran owned and the prices are absolutely worth it. Its a great value. We bought the $150 bucket and it came with 2 free stone cuts...that in it of itself made the price worth it. Although, we purchased 2 additional cuts as well. Its a lovely family run business. We chatted for a long time and found that they were exceptionally lovely people. We spent a couple hours sifting through our bucket and then returned inside and the owner went through all out finds carefully, informing us about all the stones and showing up the best options to cut. I was really just so thrilled with our time and their work. We left our stones with them to have cut and shipped back to our homes in FL and waited eagerly for them to arrive. About 4 and a half weeks later they arrived in the mail and we were so thrilled with their cuts! My boyfriend chose to cut a beautiful blue sodalite cabochon and a beautiful rectangular whiskey quartz and I chose to cut a oval olive green tourmaline and a grandma's buttercup cut whiskey quartz. They all turned out STUNNING. you can have them set in jewelry there as well, however, we live near Todd Alan and my boyfriend really wants to have him create custom rings with the stones so we passed on the settings they had. However. Their settings all look very nice and I think anyone would be quite happy with them. We plan to visit the area again in the future and its definitely on our list to do it again. They inspired me to take some local lapidary classes in my home town. I have tons of stone to practice on thanks to this activity! Bags and bags full or gemstones.
