Staying here for the weekend and noticed a FOUL smell, after searching the entire room trying to locate the source, the drain catch (? i think) for the mini fridge was growing either mold or bacteria and looked like clabbered milk was in it. wish I would have taken a photo before cleaning it out.
The place has gone downhill since the ownership change a few years ago, highly doubt we will stay here again even though it used to be a favorite

Been going to the Island Inn for 6 years each time was wonderful..but this year 2025 I have to say...1. Location Great 2. The room had no water pressure. Awfull 3. No passwords for the cable tv..The lady at the front desk fixed the tv but never gave me the the passwords go figure. I told my self this is it will not be back The Island inn has gone down hill big time...Thanks for the Memories!..Abe

I’ve been coming to N Topsail for years and have been eyeballing this hotel/motel in Surf City for the location.
Finally booked this year, called early because we were checking in after 5. (Front desk is closed after 5) .. I was given directions to get into our room. When we arrived I wasn’t sure if the code provided was the door code or the lock box code by the directions I was given. I couldn’t get the lock box open -My fault- I called the number provided and no answer. My husband was able to open the box and get us in the room. After traveling several hours it should be understandable that I didn’t want to figure out anything for myself.
One of the ACs was extremely loud throughout our stay, it barely maintained the room. Of those 2 minor inconveniences, we had such a great time that it was imperturbable with our stay that’s why I still give this place 5 stars.
When I think of a beach motel this is it. A little outdated but very well maintained, clean and quiet. The room was extremely cozy. My girls stayed in the extra bedroom and say this is their new favorite place to stay. We were able to walk to get food, ride bikes and walk across the street to the beach. The pool was never overcrowded. I absolutely loved the picnic tables outside the rooms and the rocking chairs in the front. I also requested a downstairs room during online booking and they accommodated my request.

We have always gone here! Multiple times! My family lives in the area. That's why we were so upset by our visit this time. We got the room we wanted and the hot water heater went out. No biggy they changed our room. Then for the next 2 days no hot water because the lady at the desk decided to do laundry. 1 day no biggy. 2nd day come on!! We were the only ones there?,why couldnt it wait? Really?? We left for home early cutting our vacation short. We won't be back. So disappointing considering it was christmas.

Frigid temps out but the place is really sweet. Footsteps from the beach. We have the place to ourselves but plan on coming back in the summer season.

The property seems to be in a slide. Previously, outside the rooms was immaculate. Not so much, this time. Great location and clean rooms, though.

We stayed this past weekend, an escape from Asheville and Helene. The rooms are clean and well kept, the staff is friendly and accommodating. I could not ask for an easier, no fuss experience.
While this is obvious from Maps, there is immediate beach access and the pier is very close by. There are several good food options that require a four minute walk or less, as well as other amenities.
I highly recommend catching a beach sunrise :)

The location is the best feature of the inn. Staff are friendly, but hard to get hold of. The room is spartan, but bed is comfy. No ice, unless you want to buy a big bag. No ice bucket. Coffee in room, no tea. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the evenings. Close to several restaurants, we especially enjoyed the Mexican restaurant. This place is a mixed bag, will work for many due to the location, not so much for us. When paying for accommodation, we expect more than a convenient location. And definitely not staff who think criminals are cool.

We highly enjoyed our stay, super convenient to beach access and walking distance to restaurants and bars.
We lost our key the first night and unfortunately couldn't get in contact with front desk but we made the best of it and slept on the beach for a few hours. Haven't done that since I was in my 20s lol
We will be back
Walkability: We love to park and walk anywhere we travel. This didn't disappoint
Food & drinks: Great restaurants all around

We booked a last minute weekend get away in June. They were so accommodating and had great communication. When we arrived the inn is in a perfect location. The beach is just over the dunes and there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The hotel is clean and comfy. The sheets could use an upgrade but the rest was very homey. There is a pool and free parking. We will definitely stay here on our future trips. Thanks for an awesome weekend!

Island Inn is in a great location within Surf City. You can easily walk to the beach, restaurants and shops. The outside of the hotel has been updated and looks good. Our room was spacious, but dated inside. It was clean and comfortable. We had trouble flushing the toilet at times each day, which coincided with when the pool was being filled. We loved the outdoor picnic tables, as we travelled with other family members and sat outside together each evening. Staff was super friendly but not always available. Staff families are allowed to use the pool, so at times, the small pool got crowded.As others have mentioned, I was charged more than the amount I was given when I made reservations. I did not question it during the stay because I assumed I made an error. Once home, I checked the reservation amount and amount actually charged and discovered the difference. Although it is a motel, it operates as an AirBnB does.Despite some issues, which I hope are resolved and/or transparent, I'd consider staying again simply for the location.

The only good thing about this place was the location. For the price, we expected a lot more!!!Noteworthy details: Tiny room, loud AC, no ambience, very bright in the room at night, but very dark during the day. Just awful ?
