Popped into the shop after I saw yummy healthy plants crossing my window while breakfasting at NY Deli and said to myself “I have to go there. These plants are amazing “ , so there I go. Found old books - which I love and collect, a plethora of plants, antique items, baked goods and an amazing selection of coffee! Bought some old fun books, Jordan Almonds - yum - a Pecan pie for the Easter holiday, which, sadly for my waistline, was the best pie I’ve ever had. The most fun eclectic, for me, purchase was potted lettuce, 4 varieties, that was so full and beautiful! Best part - as this potted lettuce is indoors, it won’t go to seed or bolt for the entire summer season. I have sandwich and salad fixings for the entire summer season and am never paying $7.99 for a lettuce bin for the entire Summer. Thank you! Best visit to a shop ever!! ❤️

Excellent. A trip to Surf City isn't complete without a stop at Sugar Island for some baked goods. A unique shop with a wonderful owner. Baked goods are always fresh and tasty. Check them out if you are on the island, you won't be disappointed!

Stopped in while we were waiting to visit my son. We were looking for a good place for coffee and boy did we find it. This is an adorable antique shop in addition to a coffee shop. My husband had a hot coffee and I opted for iced. Both were delicious and not too sweet. We purchased some lemon cookies and they've haunted my dreams since. They were amazing. We are planning a vacation back to the area based on our interaction with the two lovely ladies working there as well as the service.

Quaint little bookstore with a “friends” vibe. Has outstanding fresh coffee and bakery treats. Try the giant cookies, coconut macaroons and brownies.

Good cookies and coffee. Surrounded with antiques and other things of interest. Good place to find spices. Pure spices. Not ground and processed. Very friendly.

My wife and I have been coming to Sugar Island since we moved a year and a half ago, and we’ve loved it since the first time. We’re big readers, and the baked goods/coffee are always incredible, so they’ve kept us coming back. I don’t mind paying the markup for homemade baked goods, but the prices for the other items is what took my review from 5 stars to 3. Many of the books are selling for 150% or more over cover price, and these are not rare or old editions. Torn up mass market paperbacks are selling for $10. Just yesterday, a used Le Creuset dutch oven was selling for $300. As much as I love the shop, I can’t help but feel like they want to sell used goods for new prices. We’ll keep coming back for the food, but we’ll buy our other items elsewhere.

Really cute place, but the prices of the goods were, in a word, outlandish. They sold old ratty non-collector paperback books for close to their original prices… and all the knickknacks and stuff was easy 2-3 times what I would expect to pay at a fine antique store. It was like shopping at a thrift store for prices that were often more then what you would pay for a new item. The bakery area is pretty cute, but the item we got was extremely extremely sweet and inedible. I’m not sure if this place has gone through some kind of recent transition or something as it seems to have a lot of great reviews, but it was really strange. Will not be back.

Great store that has secondhand items and used books for sale. Local art, baked goods, fresh eggs, coffee, and similar all of high quality. We go there to peruse and buy cookies!!!

Incredible lattes, great service and conversation, lots of fun and interesting books (especially in the kid's section upstairs) that brought back fabulous memories. I was excited to pick up some books from my childhood to share with my kiddos.
