“I have yet to visit the nearby Tarboro Salvation Army Thrift Store but will be within the next few weeks. The Salvation Army Stores and other available services they provide for individual and surrounding communities is truly a blessing. I remember as a child how they helped to assure my mother that gently worn clothing had been cleaned and pressed beforehand and then hung out and displayed among a myriad of other donations. My mother was a prideful individual whose fears and embarrassment for asking for help to feed and clothed we four children were softly quashed by one of the SATS workers. "Everyone at one time or another, needs help and there is no shame in this at all," a young woman with a thick Irish accent told our mother. I watch a calm wash over our mothers face as her trembling lips gave way to a reassured smile. That was 59 years ago and it's become a "Family Tradition," to shop at the SATS every chance I and my grandchildren get to go. Thank you SATS for my bittersweet childhood memories and now becoming my grandchildrens too.”
