Jack Cameron you obviously have no idea what you are talking about!!! This Dollar General is a Nice store!!! I have had many Wonderful compliments about how nice the store is in comparison to many Dollar Generals around the country! With the shortage of employees and lack of corporate Leadership we do the best we can do so you keep on Driving and go somewhere wherelse because we don't need your judgment to know we are doing the best we can!!!

Keep driving or be disappointed the entire time. Food lion is 17minutes south in the next village. If you plan to shop here you may as well plan to stop again at another store. Very understaffed. Prices are never correct at Checkout. Store does not allways stock timely, back room is filled with boxes full of product unpacked, but is fully stocked with useless junk from China that was not on your list. Dairy and other cold or frozen items are always an issue. Bottom of dairy case stinks and has spilled spoiled milk on the bottom of the dairy fridge and products . Cleaning or paper supplies are not always available. If you come in tourist season or holidays. Forget it. You won't find everything you need. Floor is dirty and if the wind blows in the doors dust bunnies fly out from under the shelves and cover products. Expired dried food and canned food throughout. Baskets are dirty and wheels screech as you push it. They never use the WD40 on the wheels. Hand baskets have layers of dirt on them.Trash, boxes, and Carts left abandoned in isles to trip over.Sometimes they will close an entire day isle or other aisle to keep customers from shopping in that area. There are very, very few staff working, because it's a small island that has staffing problems everywhere . There is no low income housing for lower wage earners.Way understaffed, way overworked, and underpaid for the business they do in the summer season alone.Keep driving or go in and take your own pictures.

Stopped in to see about buying a kite for my 3-year old son. The gentleman behind the counter not only took me to find the kites, but had THE Spider Man kite my son requested. Thanks a bunch!

UPDATE: The store was fully staffed this morning and they had everything I needed. However, customers were limited to a single plastic bag for their purchases. So for my $67 grocery purchase, the cashier stuffed as many items as she could into a single bag and I had to balance the remaining items on top of my frozen pizza box. Is this plastic conservation or just poor planning on the stores behalf?EARLIER: There was no cashier in sight so I attempted to use the self-checkout. There was a problem with payment acceptance. By this time, there were 4 or 5 customers lined up behind me since there was only 1 self-checkout working and no one at the main register. I waited a few minutes to see if someone would come to my aid. Everyone was getting impatient so I yelled out in the loudest voice I could muster - "Is there an employee anywhere in the store who could help with checkout?". A few seconds later, a very non-friendly lady came out of the office area, keyed in a user ID and password (I saw where she keeps her cheatsheet), asked me if I had scanned all of my items, then I was able to complete my transaction. Sure, DG had everything on my list, but I could have just as easily walked out the front door and no one would have been the wiser.

The so-called "new management" here is extremely rude. Held up a line of customers talking with her friend for over 10 minutes! I've lived here over 4 years now. NEVER had customer service sooo terrible! If I could give zero stars, I most definitely would!

Convenient it was so close to our rental home in OBX! But found they were not well stocked, they were out of ALOT of staple pantry items. Worst part of my several trips there, was the cashier who rang me up a couple times, it was unfortunate to encounter such a miserable employee. For some reason I tried being kind and making small talk with her. Well, dont do that! Her name was Rosa. Rosa needs to find a new job not working around people, and this DG needs to put surveys under their receipts.

Giving this one star.. the lady behind the checkout counter was SO incredibly rude. I understand customer service is extremely hard I’ve worked in it for years I get it!! But when I walk up the checkout and say “hi how are you” to only get stared at with the most disgusted looked on her face … unwelcoming is an understatement. I also witnessed a customer ask for help only to get completely ignored. I would never come back here just for the fact of how rude your cashier was. Also get more than one cashier and self checkouts that don’t break down after every single use.

I stopped in several times while vacationing in Salvo last month. I commented to one of the ladies (who was restocking and tidying up) about how neat the store was and how well stocked it was as well. She said there were only two ladies who did that work and I would like to commend them both.

The store has a big selection of items when compared to other DG’s that I’ve been to. The problem lies with the employees that I’ve encountered on three separate occasions. They seem to have forgotten the basics of both customer service and basic human kindness-not to mention southern hospitality! The first cashier that I encountered, a woman with white hair, rolled her eyes at me when I said hello and proceeded to meet me with glares and silence until I was cashed out. The second cashier simply stared at us without saying a word. Today, a young lady, seemingly moving in slow motion, again said not a single word. The self checkout had broken-frozen. Instead of asking me to come to the regular checkout, she simply walked away. When she saw I hadn’t followed her or read her mind, she told me-with an attitude- “you have to come here!” I’ve worked in customer service jobs and a customer service field for my entire adult life, and there’s no excuse for this piss poor attitude.

Not the prettiest store but plenty of merchandise, and you can find a lot of what you need here, including grocery items, with refergated and frozen foods and some beer and wine.Prices are reasonable Employees are helpful here.
