We took Piper to the Train of Lights at the Wilson Rec for the first time this year. Unfortunately, it will be my last. And here’s why...
When you exit the train there are staff standing by the exit sharing with you that, “Santa is inside!” So here we go, an excited little girl in tow, to see Santa. When you enter the building at the rec, you come upon a table with more staff. Behind them, a gray steel door, shut and guarded. Santa is behind this door. I’m then informed that my daughter can see Santa if I pay $10 for a picture. In a confused state I ask, “What if my daughter decides not to talk to Santa? Can she just see him from afar?” (Piper has yet to get close to Santa). I’m greeted with, “If you pay $10.” So let me get this straight... if my daughter wants to look behind that door I have to pay $10? First of all, this is very misleading to the parents as they exit the train and are told, “Santa’s inside!” Then as they shuffle their overly excited children inside, some just to get a glimpse and some to sit in his lap, the child’s excitement is shattered with this gimmick. And in no way, shape, or form can the child see behind the door just to wave or say hi. Sadly, there were multiple children leaving the building tonight without being able to see Santa. So save your child’s feelings and take them somewhere their building excitement can be met with Santa. A Santa they have access to. When did Christmas become more about a dollar than the magic and wonder in our children’s eyes and hearts.
Save your time and money. Don’t disappoint your children.
