I love this place. The screens are somewhat oddly placed and the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. That being said, I still choose this quirky independent spot over the mega theaters every time. ?️

The a/perture provides an intimate cinema experience located in one of Winston’s historic buildings. It’s always a pleasure to view films at the a/perture.

My wife and I visited the Aperture last week to see “Flora and Son.” We’re from Greensboro and it was our first time here. We couldn’t have been more impressed. Great theater and friendly staff. Everything clean and an overall wonderful vibe. I want to thank those who make the Aperture go for their work, for providing a venue that shows less-than-mainstream movies we might otherwise miss. We plan to return. Thanks again.

My friends and I came here on Friday evening after having dinner at Xcaret down the street. We last minute decided to watch the movie called “Mutt” as we didn’t want our evening downtown to end and we had never been to aperture before. We absolutely loved our experience at this small movie theater. The staff are very kind, helpful, and knowledgeable about the films showing there. We will definitely come again to see more more movies. The price point is pretty good too and I loved that they had wine as a concession option.

Might as well have a sign that says “plus size not welcome.” :( The seats are super tiny, uncomfortable, and you’re way too close to strangers and the row in front of you. The screen is small and the sound is okay. Not what you want for a movie theater experience.

Purchased tickets in advance online & arrived at cinema to find no seats available. Tickets purchased online does not guarantee seats will be available. We won't be driving 30mins to this cinema anymore unless to see indie films that aren't played elsewhere. On another note the screen in basement is more of a home movie theater set up. Though it was fun watching people react to Triangle of Sadness, I probably should have just watched the film at home instead.

I prefer to see movies in this intimate space in Downtown Winston Salem, if the film doesn’t demand a big screen. I like the indie films that show here, particularly.

My first time at this wonderful little gem of a cinema, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! I was the only one there for the screening of Enys Men, so I just got to entirely immerse myself in the film. Loved the intimacy of the smaller screen and sound that didn't blow my ears out like a conventional theater. Extremely nice staff, too. This will definitely become a regular haunt of mine :)

Staff were super friendly and we got to talk with a film student from UNCSA which made our evening so memorable. Best part? We were able to see a great art house film!

It's a tiny cinema that has mostly independant movies, the seats and the screen are not as big as in a regular cinema, but it's still comfortable.

We love a/perture! One of our fave date night spots. Smaller crowds, clean, great movie options, the volume isn't excessive like the bigger theaters, etc.

Just moved to Winston and was happy to find this little gem. My partner and I went to see a movie this evening and we will definitely be back.

LOVE this cinema and especially LOVE theater petit. Not sure why someone is whining about this particular theater being 'small' -I assume this is typical size of a cinema room in a mansion.I watched Moonage Daydream in it 3 times and also at a normal AMC theater once and by far Petit was WAY better of a viewing experience. I also saw Sirens in Petit... I have not been in the other theaters at Aperture however I adore this place and can't imagine wasting my $ on a big chain ever again. Aperture is so much better in every way and will only watch movies here from now on.Keep in mind, I am not a fan of long lines, crowded theaters, and aisle lights on during the movie -if you prefer all of these things a normal movie franchise is where you should go. If you prefer no lines, more room to yourself and a completely dark theater during the movie, this is your place.

Went this past weekend to see Marcel the Shell. We didn't realize it was in their "petit" cinema, which is really a basement room with like 20 seats and a home theater sized screen. We asked for a refund before the show had even started, as we didn't want to sit in that small room with other people to watch a movie on a tiny screen. The staff was completely unhelpful and offered no solution, not even passes to come another time.1) That room should not cost the same as your large theaters. It's silly to even call that a theater.2) You should put "no refunds" on your site at checkout, and on your tickets3) I saw in someone else's review that you do have passes. So that would have solved our problem, and we would have been happy with that. We also would have come back and bought more concessions, and been repeat customers. Now, we're just not going to come back. So enjoy our $20 :)
