I visited this place a month ago today. My dog was not using one leg, wish they took x-tray and show me a picture on the screen supposedly my dog leg. Jennifer DVM said my dog had a fracture that would not be cure on its own only with surgery and they would not ensure me that she will use the leg 100% effectively. Cost up to 6k no option only amputation. So disappointed of this all, good thing I didn't listen, my instincts couldn't believe the information they was giving me. My dog today is walking perfectly using all 4 legs even jumping, I try to keep her from doing that but she such a happy dog, She can't help it.Please seek second opinion before spending all this money or listening to this people, who are so quick to wanna do surgery or amputate your baby leg.???

This place is pathetic. Got here at 11:44am and was the told the wait time is 3-4 hours and depending on other animal emergencies they will get seen first. We waited 2 hours and went inside and the damn front desk lady didn't even take our dogs clipboard to the back and we had to wait even longer, due to her screw up. This place doesn't care about animals, you can't even get a doctor's note for waiting in the parking lot for 4+ hours. In order to get a note, you have to wait and see what the doctor says. I'm not waiting any longer at this trash ass place. Funny how every single dog that came in before/after us is considered an "emergency".

The wait time is unreal. Hours and hours of waiting. Winston Salem pets deserve better.

I am feeling extremely disappointed, angry & misled by the obviously less than caring people at Carolina Vets in Winston Salem NC.. The instructions from the vet was clear to bring Kitty in right away which implied that he might've been poisoned by licking some of his flea & tick medication off. Unfortunately my initial reaction & gratitude was misplaced from when we arrived. While we were sitting in the waiting room, a few other people came in and their pets were taken in to get examined as well as treated before us. I even checked twice to make sure he didn't fall through the cracks. We were told each time that he IS in the queue and they know. Well, I guess they 'knew' but didn't care. We waited there for over 3-1/2 hours with NO idea, NO updates, NO communication whatsoever! The last three times we took our doggie, Chance there, we had bills of over $1000.00 twice & barely under $1000.00 once. We were expecting that as a USUAL charge from them just as a matter of course. After 3.5+ hours waiting without ANY information, we left & brought our cat home. On top of all that, two of your staff saw us leaving and said nor did ANYTHING to even acknowledge us there. Thank you FOR NOTHING!!!!

My family had an emergency with our cat's eye. We couldn't get in to see the regular vet in enough time so we found "Carolina Veterinary Specialists" and we wish we didn't. My grandmother rushed our sweet 5 year old girl to try and get her some help. The surgery was going to cost over $2000 to be able to save her and with how the economy is not everyone has that available at any given time. We tried to work with them with payment options or financing the surgery but somehow we weren't "eligible" for it? So because we weren't "eligible" for the very limited resources they had available (might I add) we were forced to put our sweet Gizmo down. Because there was no other option that we were left with. I would never recommend this place to anyone that loves their pets like family but doesn't have thousands of dollars laying around.

Amazing care! we came in for an ACL tear for our dog needing surgery and he's as good as new! Dr. Cogar was through and caring. All of the staff were kind and helped us tremendously through the entire process. highly recommend!

If I could give no stars I would. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. If this wasn't the only option around, I would never go here. They are money greedy pigs. My dog was put to sleep and instead of being respectful about what just happened, all they were worried about was money. The last thing I should have to worry about is forking over thousands of dollars for nothing. You didn't fix anything. Instead you took my money and took my dog from me. I am so disgusted with how this business is ran and if it were me, they'd be shut down immediately. No financial support or anything like we expect an emergency like this to happen. Nobody should have to worry about money when their pet is dying.

I cannot say enough good things about CVS and their team. My 3 year old ECS whelped and 9 days later developed eclampsia which is life threatening. The team scooped her up and treated her immediately. They saved her life! Yesterday, 5 years later, she presented with an inflamed GI tract. Dr. Braun reviewed the notes from our primary vet and quickly came up with a successful treatment plan which meant admitting her to the hospital. Her situation was not as life threatening so I had the opportunity to sit for a while in the waiting room. I was amazed at the number of true emergencies that entered the door on this Saturday. The team was so good at treating each patient kindly, humanely, gently and with great respect to the owners. Dr. Braun reviewed the notes from our primary vet, examined Megan and quickly came up with a successful treatment plan which included admitting her to the hospital. Outcomes are not always positive but you can be assured that they try everything humanly possible to save animals. I highly recommend this practice when the situation deems necessary.

My dachshund had a slipped disc which caused her intense pain and paralysis. Not only was the ENTIRE staff exceptional, but they saved my dogs life. She had to have surgery, and the doctor kept me informed through the whole process.

Our daughter brought her sweet little cat, Lily, here a couple days ago. The Vet, she saw, advised that Lily should be euthanized because she wouldn't get better. Lily was only about two years old. To find out the cause of her condition, our daughter was told it would cost $2000-$3000 for an autopsy (which she couldn't afford). This place charged her $175 to euthanize their sweet little kitty (and she was a small cat). This tells me that this place has no empathy and no love for pets. They are only in business for the money!!!! How heartless they were!! What kind of medicine and how much of this medicine was needed to euthanize a small beloved cat?? Was it liquid gold?? To some $175 may not be much but I truly believe it was way excessive!! I think this rip off joint needs to refund her $150. Also we had a very nice funeral for Lily because cremation would have cost hundreds of dollars. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PRECIOUS PET TO THIS GREEDY UNCARING MONEY PIT!!!! SHAME SHAME SHAME ON THEM FOR THEIR GREED!!! Brad and Mardi Werner Winston Salem, NC

Our sweet dog developed a lump in spring 2022, our primary vet referred us here and they were fantastic from the beginning to the end. We spent lots of time (and money, let's be honest) here but we don't regret a bit of it- we did chemo and major surgery that was very successful with clean margins and our girl recovered well. Sometimes luck isn't on our side though and she had another lump about 6-7 months later, which was close to the original site and very aggressive. We did some steroids but when she took a very sudden downturn and we knew it was time, they were able to see us quickly and were so incredibly compassionate and helped us through the end as best they could. Cremation went smoothly and as hard as it was to lose our companion, we would absolutely come back to CVS if our future pets need specialists. Dr Peter, Dr Burr, Alison and everyone else treated our dog like their own, always remembered her and comforted her when she was nervous. They even sent us a gorgeous plant after her passing and we'll always be grateful for what they did for us. Everyone there is awesome and we always felt like they did their best for our family.

Don't even bother getting the paw prints made because they are damn near pitiful. They are overpriced & you're fully paying for the embellishments of a bag and box..

They saved my dog, Ethel's life and they were caring, professional, aggressive when needed but conservative when possible. I cannot give higher praise for this hospital.

My son and his girlfriend took their fur baby (dog) to the Winston Salem location last week. It was after 11PM. Their dog had been hit by a car and they called ahead and was told the Vet would be waiting for them with a gurney. Upon arrival they were not met with a gurney but were met with an unprofessional, rude staff member who did not show any compassion at all to them or the dog. Unfortunately, their pet died upon arrival. The staff was quick to get payment and even then lacked compassion that they just lost their beloved companion. The kids were heartbroken to say the least. The one saving grace was they were not at the mercy of the Vet/Staff for any medical services or any further interaction. The only positive I have is the cremation company, Agape, that is used by the Vet office. What a lovely memorial package was put together for the Kids to remember their pet and help with closure of their loss. I would NEVER use Carolina Veterinary Specialists again nor would I recommend them. Emergency care is when emotions are high and compassion is needed, this is not the place to go.... I strongly recommend that management review their staff that they have during emergency hours and make sure they take a course in empathy and compassion because the staff on hand that night needs training or to be let go.. they were awful. Shame on them.

absolutely would not recommend unless this is your only viable option in an urgent situation, but even then with my experience on top of others i have read you still might have better luck driving the extra miles to the next closest emergency vet. almost every interaction i myself or my boyfriend had was met with little to no compassion or empathy. was on the phone in tears on the way here letting them know my urgent situation and the receptionist seemed to to be inconvenienced by my high strung emotions. they told me they would have a stretcher outside or by the door waiting for me when i arrived, which is most definitely false. i told them when i was 10 minutes out, and also 5. called back when i realized my girl went unconscious and the response i got was essentially an "okay? and?" then when i got the confirmation she was gone and asked if i wanted to see her, i said yes, and she was rolled into the room and eyes and mouth wide open with no warning as to what she'd look like. avoid at all costs.
